Post #1by tymbusku » 20.07.2018, 09:00

I am a new user of Celestia.
I would like to know how to transform starting from an format JPEG or PNG picture into an dds format.
Which software it is necessary to use to do that?
How to create several pictures dds format of 512*512 of one only kid picture of 2048*1024?

I like to use the command-line package ImageMagick to convert image formats and sizes since its results are reproducible and can be scripted.

convert -format dds -define dds:compression=dxt1 input.jpg

translates input.jpg to using dxt1 compression.

It also can crop and extract pieces of an image:

convert -crop 512x512+0+0 input.png output.png

extracts a 512x512 portion from the image input.png starting at an offset of 0,0 and writes it to output.png

There are many tutorials available on the Web which describe how to use ImageMagick to manipulate images.
