Trappist's Gallery of DEMs (Digital Elevation Models) and topography maps

Post #1by trappistplanets » 17.02.2021, 19:49

i have collected lots of dems and topography maps and i am going to post them here
some required very hard research to find and others my discord friends help me find.

europa
europa-DEM.png
original from MExLab Geoportal

callisto
callisto-bump.png
converted this from a thingiverse model and the maker of the model (tato_713) got the original dem from MExLab Geoportal

uranian moon DEMS: https://repository.hou.usra.edu/handle/20.500.11753/1687

enceladus
enceladus-bump.png
original from https://agu.confex.com/agu/fm20/webprogram/Paper761085.html

(modified this so it lines up with FarGetaNick's enceladus texture

iapetus

io
io-bump.png
converted from 3d asteroid catalogue model using blender 2.70

triton
triton-topo.png
got the original from a pdf (forgot witch one)

Bennu
bennu-topo.png
converted from 3d asteroid catalogue model using blender 2.70, then used gimp and processed it into a topography map

Charon (Pluto I)
charon-dem.png
this is semifictional (farside is the fictional stuff (decited to make it blurry)

Pan (moon of saturn)
pan-DEM.png
processed this DEM from the 3d asteroid catalogue model

THIS IS NOT ALL!
for any discord users out there that want to get there hands on more of my stuff and talk about texture making
just join discord.gg/NKe2BpW
and make sure after you join just kindly let me know in the #general channel your forum username so we know what forum user me and other current members are talking too, thanks.

Semifictional and Fictional DEMs

Triton Fictional Dem

i consider this fictional because there is only a tiny bit of real data mixed in here (located in cantaloupe terrain)

credits to FarGetaNick and Dr. Sckenk

just added triton fictional DEM

for some reason it won't let me post more attachments after i posted that one
so i am going to start posting them in the comment section

(altho this is not a DEM i am going to post it because it goes with the Triton fictional DEM)

triton.png
credits to fargetanick for original texture i made this from (his green triton)
i found GLOBAL Spectrum for triton https://sci-hub.do/https://doi.org/10.1006/icar.1999.6224 and askaniy processed it and that global color is in the texture
the brown cantaloupe terrain is based off of nasa's color sequencing of triton's colors
https://www.jpl.nasa.gov/images/color-sequence-of-triton-approach-images

Triton topography map with enhanced details
Added after 32 minutes 27 seconds:
triton-topo_enhanced_details.png
used kexitt's triton height map to enhance the details of the triton topography map

Added after 4 minutes 5 seconds:
Io bump map with fictional data added to fill in unknown areas
Io-bump.png
i converted the original map (with unknown areas) from the 3d asteroid catalogue model

Added after 5 minutes 40 seconds:
Europa semifictional map
europa-bump (semifictional).png
this took a while to make
Credit to Fargetanick, and Mexlab geoportal
there are also tiny pieces of high res real dem data mixed in here i found in many PDFs but i think there from sckenk (not 100% sure)

Added after 7 minutes 27 seconds:
Triton bump map (it real other then using kexitt's height map (fictional) to enhance details of lower quality portion of the dem)
triton-bump2.png
processed the triton topography map into a DEM then enhansed the detail with Kexitt's height map then blended 2 tiles of higher resolution DEM into it

credits to Dr. Sckenk and Kexitt

Triton: Topography and Geology of a Probable Ocean World with Comparison to Pluto and Charon

Post #5by trappistplanets » 19.09.2021, 23:03

there is this new recently published article by Dr. Schenk regarding Triton's topography
https://www.mdpi.com/2072-4292/13/17/3476/htm
its quite interesting how they manage to get DEM data for the nitrogin icecap (all though its not reliable)

i compiled most of the stuff in the article into a single DEM map
