Dione_a_normal.jpg

This screenshot shows the 73 locations Dione type "AA".

The strangeness is that this location is not only the visible side, but the back side of Dione. :insane:

This effect was observed when using "Celestia Origin", release dated December 30, 2018.
This effect is not present when the "Celestia Origin", release dated April 30, 2018

Note. The Lua Edu Tools GUI installed in Celestia Origin has been replaced.
GUI Lua Universal Tools v5.0 beta 2. For details, see. viewtopic.php?p=141577#p141577

Possible reasons from "Celestia Origin":
changes in the structure of solarsys.ssc (12/30/2018) compared to solarsys.ssc (04/28/2018)

Possible reasons from "Lua Universal Tools":
New tool - ObjectVisibilityButton.
==================
I propose to move the discussion of this problem into a separate topic: Graphic interface Lua Universal Tools v5.0 beta 2 - testing
viewtopic.php?p=141736#p141736

Added after 11 hours 38 minutes:
-
The reason is found (this is "Celestia Origin"). Problem solved modifications to the base locations for Class objects "diffuse".

Art Blos, I have something you should change. You should change the name Hayabusa 2 to Hayabusa2. This is because the one without the space between Hayabusa and 2 is the official spelling.

Ok, I'll fix it.

Art Blos, will you update some of the asteroid models so they use newer models from space.frieger.com/asteroids/? For example, Hanuš et al. (2017) has new and improved models for 2 Pallas, 5 Astraea, 8 Flora, 9 Metis, etc.

Back in June, Greg sent me a large archive with all the new models. This is a huge amount of work, but I hope this year everything will be added.

I hope so too. I wonder how long it took to make the 3000+ asteroid base?

The base is created using a special tool in 2014 year. Further various manually changes.

Art Blos, could these files be of any use to your project? It's a new version of the hdindex.dat and saoindex.dat files, that also include indexes for TYC stars. (They've been made by extracting data from SIMBAD, and converted using ajtribick's buildxindices.pl file.)

Is it possible for you guys to make an update of the stars.dat file using data from the Gaia Catalogue, both DR1 and DR2 releases, and all other star catalogues not used by the current stars.dat?

We do not have the ability to edit this file directly. In any case, the Gaia catalog in the current format would weigh dozens of gigabytes.

Several revised versions of Celestia's stars.dat using Gaia positions are available in the thread

Askaniy and I discussed this. In general, your texture looks realistic and there are no alternatives yet.
