No, he's talking about self hosting (using one's PC as a web server, which I had mentioned earlier).

But why did he mention Comcast and AT&T?

This seems to be a general issue on ibiblio right now (other sites also does not work properly there).
Please be patient, we will try to solve this problem.

Comcast and AT&T are two examples of large communications companies in the U.S. They both are cable television and internet service providers to individual homes and to companies. (Usually only one such service provider is available in any particular community.) Internet services provided to companies cost a lot more than Internet services for individuals. Apparently John has had experience with both of them.

Imagine if Viacom was involved instead... this site would be gone.

Noting that the Motherlode (and Celestial Matters) are working again now.

Well, there are two options. Either get someone who is more active to admin the Motherlode, or make a new addon website as suggested in this thread.

Adirondack, Is it possible to include and add new admins to the Motherlode? Anthony_B_Russo10 is volunteering to become an admin of the Motherlode

What about me? Can I volunteer to be an administrator as well? If I want to quit, I can just inform you.

Hundred admins would have not prevent the blackout of the CML.
So we do not need more admins to keep the CML up and running.
Nor do we need more or other admins just to change everything and design everything new.
Nevertheless you are free to build your own repository (and invent the wheel a second time).

Alright. We can do that. I just have to make sure we truly have your blessing to do so. Otherwise, we might be an unofficial repository website, and I don't want some controversies erupting out from this.

Don't you see the issue here? That's a valid concern. Although I'm not sure if there is much of a better option at this point. Can anything from the current motherlode get carried over so we don't literally have to start from scratch?

Actually, now that I think about it, I do not feel that I will be contributing lots to any new motherlode or repository (sorry about that).

Well, as far as I can see: No.
The uploaders/contributors did allow the Motherlode to redistribute the Addons. So you have to gather your own stuff for your new platform.

The issue isn't the temporary downtime, it's that the Motherlode is now very rarely updated. A more active admin would help with that. In fact my first suggestion (on the Discord server) was to get a new admin, but everyone wanted to make a new site.

Adirondack: Alternatively, could you promise that you and anybody else running the Motherlode will check the site more frequently for updates?

Thanks,
