Re: Celestia 1.7.0 Development Thread

If that's the case, I'm ok with it. I just find it odd that you would "break" something on purpose before implementing the update.

Re: Celestia 1.7.0 Development Thread

Why would they remove this option  I can't remember a time when rings actually slowed down anything. I would appreachiate if there was an option still. As I demonstrated on the discord already, the restriction procudes obvious artifacts. Hm that would just be another account to manage. Not sure...

Re: Celestia 1.7.0 Development Thread

I don't have a GitHub account so I'm posting it here. The latest 1.7 version posted here seems to no longer support the change of ring segment resolution. In the config file, RingSystemSections 256 controls how many sections Celestia uses to approxiamte a circle and the default value of 100 makes it...

SevenSpheres , for M star textures I've been using images by the swedish solar telescope . Re: Improved atmopheric light scattering

It uses old inhome vector library replaced with Eigen, and as the rest of Celestia uses Eigen, we simply unable to build it. I have a branch with scattersim updated to Eigen, but I never had a reference implementation to check its output, afair it returns a black filled file. Now with the files you...

Re: Improved atmopheric light scattering

Oh well. How so?
While trying to apply some of the parameters to what Celestia does atm, it became very obvious that Celestia completely cuts of atmophereric rendering at idk... 2 scale heights or soemthing? For a start increasing (or removing?) this limit would help improve rendering already.

Improved atmopheric light scattering

While working on my improved atmopheric parameters for Earth I was made aware on the discord that back in the day, chris developed a tool called "scattersim" and posted a compiled version on the Celestial Matters forum . Using the Wayback Machine you can still download the executable . It'...

Re: Whole Earth View

My first release of Project Echoes is done, but Earth remained an odd case as it still didnt seem to fit in with my new more realistic renders of the major solar system bodies. I want to give an update on my most recent findings about rendering Earth in Celestia. The BMNG data set is great as it is ...

Re: Question about the splash screen

I kinda forgot about that issue as the latest 1.7 I'm using doesnt dosplay the splash screen at all anymore (which is also annoying cause I can't know if I sucessfully launched Celestia) but I agree the splash screen should be able to be hidden by other windows.

Re: Project Echoes (Celestia Content Rework) - Release 0.1

It's been a decade. I lost my hopes in that regard. I'm considering a new definition is more likely at this point as planetary scientists don't agree with the IAU anyways...

Re: Project Echoes (Celestia Content Rework) - Release 0.1

Eris was way past the threshhold. Makemake and Haumea got slipped throug with the AbsMag 1 rule. There are no known objects that would pass in a similar fashion.

Art Blos wrote:Perhaps there is still insufficient evidence of hydrostatic equilibrium.

That's the problem. Unless you send a spacecraft to every single object in question and measure its physical properties to prove equilibrium, the IAU wont accept it. At least that's the impression I got.

Re: Project Echoes (Celestia Content Rework) - Release 0.1

At this point I'm pretty sure 2007 OR10 will never be reclassified. The IAU has given up on announcing additional dwarf planets.

Oh well I can reclassify them according to IAU and make an addon for my personal use then.

Oh yeah, I noticed this too but it wasn't a major enough inconvenience to bring it up yet. Would be nice if that gets looked into though.

Re: Project Echoes (Celestia Content Rework) - Release 0.1

Oh dear I didn't mean to spark that debate again. I got fed up with the IAU definition and did my own thing basically. I have a slightly different view on what should be a dwarf planet and what not (I don't even want to call it dwarf planet but explaining my reasons in detail will result in a page-l...

Project Echoes (Celestia Content Rework) - Release 0.1

I'm happy to announce the release of my preliminary version of: Project Echoes project echoes icon.png It has a long history, in short at some point I decided the default catalogues of Celestia weren't good enough anymore and started working on a new default for Celestia. This project focuses on upd...

Re: Suggesting new SSC parameters for modeling and minor bodies

Hm I see, ofc I can't really jusge how complicated these things are to implement but some of it doesnt appear hard to do (AbsMag to MeanRadius). If this is heard and considered for future releases I'm happy. I'm also happy to contribute to get an official 1.7 release done but programming is the one ...

Suggesting new SSC parameters for modeling and minor bodies

Modeling minor bodies or objects with poorly defined parameters or irregular shape is quite tricky and bothersome in Celestia. If one wants to have a realistic set of parameters, either a lot of unnecessary calcutations are required or one has to live with poor representation of the object, some pro...

Re: Celestia Icon Redesign

fyr02 , I did the black outlines to ensure it's still visible on any background. Some of my earlier versions didn't have these so depending on your background it would pop or blend in... which is not what an icon should do. Lafuente_Astronomy , I'm not sure to what degree I should simplify the logo...
