You need to specify what version of Celestia that you're using and what hardware you have. Bugs present in one version of Celestia might not be present in another.

FWIW, I used only the contents of the zip provided by Janus, with no additional catalog files. I let Celestia take the viewpoint to Earth and then rotated the viewpoint around the planet using the mouse. The QT refresh rate seemed to be 1/4 the speed of the VS version, or perhaps even slower.

@Janus, FWIW, your QT build runs on my ancient Dell laptop (running Win7 with current patches), but its window updates much more slowly than the non-QT version that's in the same folder. You don't have to use photoshop. There are many free paint programs which can generate jpeg, png or dds images.

I like paint.net for Windows. Many people use gimp, which is available for Windows, MacOS and Linux.
