Re: Reading a file in a Lua script

Lua io. routines are working for me with both 1.6.1 and 1.7 without the presence of an explicit io.dll. I'm assuming you've included this statement in your CelX script: celestia:requestsystemaccess() I might have asked this before, but what version of Celestia are you running? 1.6.1, 1.6.2, 1.7? If ...

Re: reading my ECEF pos/vel and quaternions

Simguy, Chuft-Captain's descriptions of what I was doing is exactly right. I used that order only so I could keep their functions straight in my own mind. In some cases one or both Frames can be omitted if their default values are appropriate for the object being defined. I found it easier to write ...

Re: reading my ECEF pos/vel and quaternions

Unfortunately, I've never gotten my head around Quaternions, so I can't help directly. However, I'd tend to suspect the Orientation statement. I believe that it is used as the reference orientation for the SampledOrientation's .q file. I could be wrong, though.

Re: reading my ECEF pos/vel and quaternions

I'm assuming you're using Celestia v1.6.1 (or a close variant). My understanding is that the times used by the GUI are Gregorian, including leap seconds, etc. In contrast, the times that Celestia uses internally, including in xyzv files, are TDB. As a result, a time you specify to the GUI is unlikel...

Re: Celestia 1.7.0 Development Thread

1. I was expecting everything necessary to be included in the .7z archive. 2. Unfortunately, the orbit gap isn't a fade. It's an abrupt turning off, which I suspect is a bug. Also, please note that the Fading Orbits option is not checked in the View Options menu as can be seen in the screenshot that...

Re: Celestia 1.7.0 Development Thread

It has problems on my laptop: 1. no GUI (corner) text is visible whether terse or verbose is selected. 2. There's a gap in the orbit next to the Earth. 3. Note that the OpenGL info window is improperly formatted, too. I copied all of the files from the .7z archive into (a copy of) the same directory...

Re: Hill Sphere Radius

One way to do it is to draw the outline of a sphere which consists only of lines instead of solid facets. The attached Hill_sphere.zip shows the Earth's Hill sphere using a plain-text ASCII CMOD mesh. You can modify its colors using your favorite text editor. Hill_sphere.zip capture_002_09032020_114...

Re: SevenSpheres is now an Admin/Mod/something

@SevenSpheres, I don't think PhpBB includes that feature. I found a rather complex PhpBB3 MOD which seems to provide that and several related anti-spam features, but modifying the copy of PhpBB running the forum might not be appropriate. See http://dangerousprototypes.com/docs/PhpBB3_MOD:_phpBB_spam...

@SevenSpheres,

I believe that links in signatures were disabled as an attempt to minimize the impact of spammers. Some spammers make posts which look fine, but then update their signatures to contain advertising links. Most moderators never notice when that happens.

Re: Improving the Celestia Wikibook

That certainly seems reasonable to me.

Currently that information is scattered all over the Web (some, for example, among my "resources" pages). I'm sure it'd be much more helpful if it were all in one place.

Re: New bugfix release 1.6.2-beta1

@Anthony, including those references certainly seems reasonable to me. Hopefully they'll be added to README.txt, too. Note that I'm not directly involved in Celestia's code development and don't have write access to its github repository, so I'm leaving the editing of its documentation files to thos...

Re: New bugfix release 1.6.2-beta1

There are some bugs that I've found in the documentation accompanying Celestia v1.6.2 1. The menu Help -> About says Copyright (C) 2001-2019 That should be Copyright (C) 2001-2020 ======================= 2. README.txt needs several updates A. The section "INSTALLING IN UNIX AND LINUX" need...

Re: New name on composante A

Unfortunately, it looks like you'll have to replace newstars.stc, deleting all of the current entry for "Achird A". Then when you provide your own STC catalog, Celestia will replace the onscreen name for "Achird A" by whatever name you put first in your new Star (or Barycenter) d...

Re: Pb on adding new star

The problem is your minus sign. There seems to be a "modifier" character just in front of it which is not shown by the forum software. Could it be that you are using a word processor (e.g. Word) instead of a text editor? Word processors replace some ASCII characters by the binary codes of ...

Re: Celestia 1.7.0 Development Thread

Problem: Celestia v1.7 draws Earth red when an orbiting sphere is defined. This problem is not seen with Celestia v1.6.1 or v1.6.2 beta2 I'm guessing there might be a problem in one of the shaders. This Addon demonstrates this bug. Tha enclosed "redden.html" provides a CEL:// URL which tak...

Re: New bugfix release 1.6.2-beta1

Janus, Thanks, a lot! I've verified that your revised Celestia-txf-x64 (v 1.7, r5719) does indeed fix both the ScriptedOrbit and ScriptedRotation bugs which were reported by Chuft Captain above. My test of ScriptedRotation did uncover a different bug, though: Earth is sometimes drawn red, indicating...

Re: Recording videos in Celestias doesn't work, Help!

I use k-lite, too. Its H.264 encoder is very good. However, if you are going to do any editing, it’s best to use a lossless encoder until you publish the final version. Most video encoders are lossy. Each time you export to a file from the editor, more of the fine details are lost.
