Enhancement request: graphics in front of menus

When in window mode, it'd be nice if the graphics display window would come in front of any open menu windows when it's selected. I like to leave menus open so I can select various places to go, but the larger ones block too much of the graphic window. One can use the Windows shortcut Alt-Tab to cyc...

Re: Feature Requests for 1.2.5 Final

For those asking about realtime spacecraft functions: Are you aware of Orbiter? http://www.medphys.ucl.ac.uk/~martins/orbit/orbit.html If only the two could be merged... Unfortunately, the author of Orbiter uses DirectX instead of OpenGL. He realizes now it was a mistake, but it's too late to switch.

Re: Were is 1280 x 1024???

Is 1280x1024 x?Hz listed as being available in XP's display properties popup? I'm wondering if maybe you've got the refresh rated cranked up enough that XP doesn't believe that your hardware will support that resolution at that refresh rate. Also, exactly which card and driver version are you using?...

Re: Here is a new stars database for Celestia

Mike, I certainly didn't take your comment as being offensive. It just seemed to me that perhaps you were unfamiliar with that particular term. It can be hard to tell when someone is being funny. Sometimes I get carried away with explanations, too. Now I think I'll go back and stargaze some more :)

Celestia 12.5b2 bug: orbital spasms

When the selected object's orbit is just barely within view, it often jumps around wildly, going in and out of view. This was observed after a "goto" to the ISS. The red orbital line flickered in and out of the window. Presumably this is due to rounding errors. Config: WinMe, 256MB 500MHz P3, 128MB ...

Celestia 1.2.5b2 bug: menus disappear

When one toggles from window mode to full screen mode and then back to window mode again, the menus have disappeared. In other words, typing Alt-Enter twice results in no menus on the window. This happens under the following versions of Windows: XP Pro, 2000 Pro, Me and W98SE. I didn't test NT, 98 o...

Re: celestia v1.2.5b2 bug: crashes under XP Pro

My problems with crashes and strange textures on the Earth model clearly were all due to different bugs in the Voodoo5 drivers available for the various versions of Windows :( I just finished upgrading to an Nvidea GeForce Ti4200 128MB. It only took me 2.5 hours. grump. Celestia 1.2.5b2 no longer cr...

Re: Here is a new stars database for Celestia

BillyBob, Since your comment seems to be meant seriously, I just thought I should clarify things a little: "It's not a bug, it's a feature!" is a sarcastic remark that's common in the computer software industry. It's used when everyone knows it's a problem and it's going to be fixed Real Soon Now. (...

Re: Display problems.

Andrea, The Asus V8420 is a high-performance version of the GeForce4 Ti4200. (See http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=MzMx for a review) It should work just fine with the "reference" drivers that Nvidia provides on their web site at http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp Although its ...

Re: 1.2.5 prerelease 2 - Fixed!

jrobert,

You left out the GeForce4 Ti4200. I just picked up the 128MB version at our local BestBuy at lunchtime today. It's not quite as fast as the other two models, but I think it'll do. ;)

So much for putting off upgrading...

Re: 1.2.5 prerelease 2

I realize the comet tails are still a (very effective) work-in-progress, but hopefully the effect will be a selectable "View Option" by the time 1.2.5 is released.

Re: 1.2.5 prerelease 2 - Fixed!

Are there any other objects in the standard distribution that have as complex a layering of textures as the Earth model? Looking at Jupiter, Saturn and Venus, I don't see similar problems.

Re: 1.2.5 prerelease 2 - Fixed!

As I mentioned in another thread, v1.2.4 (including lots of add-ons by many different contributors -- thanks!) works fine on the same system under both XP Pro and W98.

I'll admit I've been considering a system upgrade anyhow, but it won't happen very soon.

Re: 1.2.5 prerelease 2 - Fixed!

Unfortunately, although b2 works fine on my system at work (NT4,2GHz P4,ATI Rage 128), it draws textures incorrectly on my system at home (W98SE, 500MHz P3,Voodoo5). (and still crashes under XP Pro.) The initial screen which claims to be showing Earth isn't shaded properly: textures are only partial...

Re: HEY some suggestions for future releases from a newbie

TK24, Extrasolar planets are detected by variations in the spectral lines of the stars they orbit around. The light waves are doppler shifted (i.e. the spectal lines change their wavelengths) rythmically as the stars are pulled back and forth by their accompanying planets. That's why the planets tha...

Celestia 1.2.5beta2 bug: orbit misses object

I realize this must be a really ancient bug since I didn't see it mentioned in a search of recent postings. When orbit display is enabled, the orbit of the object being viewed often misses the object's image, sometimes by very large distances. e.g. Start Celestia open the "solar system browser" sele...

celestia v1.2.5b2 bug: tour guide default goto does nothing

If one opens the tour guide window and just selects "goto", nothing happens: it doesn't take you to Jupiter. If you highlight the Jupiter entry, and then "goto, nothing happens. However, if you highlight some other destination (e.g. Pluto and Charon), then highlight Jupiter, and then select "goto", ...

celestia v1.2.5b2 bug: crashes under XP Pro

Celestia v1.2.5 beta 2 (and beta 1) crashes almost immediately when run under Windows XP Pro. It creates the graphic window, but never draws anything. Beta2 runs fine on the same system when running under Win98 2nd edition (except for the textures problems reported by others). V1.2.4 runs fine on th...
