Re: Current project: PHP/MySQL star generator

I noticed in the output of http://www.tarazedi.com/files/backup%20files/stargenerator_Sept10.php, some of the brown dwarfs are too massive to be brown dwarfs. The largest a brown dwarf can be is slightly smaller than Wolf 359 (about 0.08 solar masses). Also it don't seem to generate any class T brow...

Re: 1 Mega-stars STC file for M31

Hi, False plutonian :!: The file "2 million stars database" is a solid foundation :) That is why there are several files in the data directory like : nearstars.stc, revised.stc, extrasolar.*, spectbins.stc, visualbins.stc, ... They update the latest data. :) qED. They don't fix all of the...

Re: Rogue (starless) planet method?

Just be sure to use PericenterDistance for a hyperbolic orbit and not SemiMajorAxis. If you use SemiMajorAxis, you get one weird orbit as I found out the hard way. Also, the orbital period for a hyperbolic orbit has a different fomula than an elipitical one. See http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Celestia...

Re: Rogue (starless) planet method?

You could have the planet follow a very hyperbolic path around a star (like an eccentricity greater than 5.0). Since its following a hyperbolic path, it technically isn't orbiting anything.

Can't download anything from that link. I go to http://www.tarazedi.com/files/StargenTextures.exe and I end up getting redirected to http://w.tarazedi.com/About . :(

Re: MCL2STC -- command-line Cluster generator

I got everything except for the statitics done this morning. :D

Attached is what I have so far.

I don't have any binaries for Windows as that I use Linux though the stuff is a CMake project so making a windows binary shouldn't be too difficult for anyone who wants to.

Re: 1 Mega-stars STC file for M31

Yes, Celestia need a tool to build binary STC files. Currently, it recognize only one binary file, and it must be placed in its data folder. Very sad. Theorically, it could be possible to put convert the data from the stc file into the same format as the data on the text file used to make that bina...

Re: MCL2STC -- command-line Cluster generator

I also noticed that mcl2stc doesn't work with data made with the most recent version of mcluster. I'm working on a C++ version of mcl2stc that will be compatible with the newest version of mcluster (and any future versions as long as they don't add, remove or change the order of the columns in the o...

Re: MCL2STC -- command-line Cluster generator

Fridger, I've been working on a v2 of the program which addresses some of your comments. I'm using g95 as my primary compiler for that, since it supposedly can generate binaries under Cygwin which do not require redistributing Cygwin's own runtime libraries. I'd be interested in your comments about...

Since that one is so small could you generate some main sequence stars for IC 3094? Please?

Re: 1 Mega-stars STC file for M31

I can't wait to start putting planets and stuff around these stars... Take note that the stars in this STC file are mostly of spectral class O and B (very luminous stars), so we could see them at some distance. For Sol like stars ( F , G and K ), you should use the database I published in another t...

Re: Verona Planetary System (Fictional)

The Heelix Nebula doesn't render for me for some reason. All I see is a big white square thing... :( Also, is it alright if I use your textures in add-ons I'm making? I have a surplus of textures to use for rocky and volcanic planets but I have a shortage for ones to use for Mars-like, icy, and gase...

Re: Brown dwarf oddness

I can see it when its a T6 dwarf.

BTW, the zip file I linked to in my first post is regenerated about once every 10 minutes to reflect any changes I make so the brown dwarf in there may or may not be the same spectral type as I originally had it.

Re: Brown dwarf oddness

seeing as brown dwarves do not emit much in the visible spectrum in IR yes but in visible , not much ... so this is behavior that i would expect But Celestia lists the Visible magnitude, not the Infrared one. Would you not expect an object with a visible magnitude of V = 0.22 to be visible, regardl...

Brown dwarf oddness

I'm working on a star system. One of the objects in it is a brown dwarf. For some odd reason, when I'm like 4000 AU from the brown dwarf, its invisable despite Celestia saying it has a visable magnitude of 0.22 and a diameter comparable to the G type stars in the same system. The odd thing is that w...

Re: Triple star system, planets and solar system browser

1. Most importantly, the solar system browser (or howerver it?s called in english) only contains the objects around the Ajuma-Bajam double star, not those orbiting only around Ajuma or the far star Sagari. That's an annoying bug in Celestia that I reported months ago ( http://celestiaproject.net/fo...

Re: Planetshine oddity

Sounds like a similar thing I noticed when I make a system with a binary planet (two planets orbiting a reference point that orbits a star). When one of the two planets passes between its star and the other planet, no shadow is put on the other planet. :?
