Re: Custom Science-Fiction Pictures from Celestia

Very nice work, P.E.!

Last shot for now...This is one of Srira Viti, its parent planet Cotralege Mu (thank you AstroSynth name generator for such wierdness) and just over the limb, Tegmine C,D and E (D and E are so close they look like 1.)

I'll try and present some new material soon...

Re: Custom Science-Fiction Pictures from Celestia

Thank you. I've been slowly reworking the Tegmine A system, hopefully for a re-release. The first version got panned, and in retrospect, deservedly so. There's a super-earth in the system that needs help, plus the other moons could use original textures as well. Here's one I made with a color-invert...

Re: Custom Science-Fiction Pictures from Celestia

My, my...I'm gone for a bit and things get a little nasty! On the other hand, I'm flattered you like at least some of my work, Massimo. Thank you for bringing Wilbur to my attention. Here's another view of a world called Srira Viti, which orbits the third planet of Tegmine A...

Re: Custom Science-Fiction Pictures from Celestia

I guess this is where this goes...4 more earthlike worlds, made using Wilbur and GIMP...except the one in the upper left corner... :D

Your work is very inspiring! I find myself torn between using what you've made and making my own!

Re: Post your Celestia pictures!

Very nice, John. There's a very subtle beauty to it. Very calming, actually. Here's another one: two massive ice caps with an encircling ocean. The generator I used for this system gave it a ring, which I'm debating about keeping. (The ring doesn't have a texture, so it just appears grey.) -M- PS: C...

Re: Post your Celestia pictures!

Interesting concept ships... Got lazy, decided to put 4 in one shot...from top left and going clockwise...Pern (from Anne McCaffrey's Dragonrider series), an Earth-like moon orbiting a water giant in the Tegmine system, Isis (from Monica Hughes' Keeper of the Isis Light,) and another water world orbi...

Absolutely, jaw-dropping beautiful! Time well spent. And to quote a little Shakespeare, "Fair Verona, where we lay our scene..."

Spectacular! For the surface shots, what did you use?

Nope. Just a small rocky world. Got the texture from here:

It cannot be denied that their output, shall we say, borders on excessive. Again, no offense was intended or implied. I just would like to see other works...

Second that re: the Star Wars add-on. Ambitious? Absolutely. Executed well? Not so much. Maybe smaller sections, a little at a time, and well done would have been the answer. My 2 cents...

I rather like the "biologic" look of the Babylon-5 models...incredibly well done.

Re: Post your Celestia pictures!

So John, you just put down a bump/normal map and then color the sphere as your "texture"? Here's some systems I'm working on...a system near Nunki, and a rework of the Tegmine system...a more sublime change of pace from the deluge of Star Trek stuff. (No offense...it's been all a bit too m...

Re: Celestia Add-On Builder

Will the star builder have a feature to calculate decimal degrees or will it still be up to the creator to supply that info?

I'm looking forward to the completion of this.

Re: new moon orbits Pluto

This will be neat when New Horizons gets there...instead of 2 Kuiper Belt objects, we get to see 6. Not a full sampling of what such objects look like, but it's something.

Bump Map/Normal Map Creation

Since there has been much discussion regarding this topic and how to make them properly, I submit this. It has been repeatedly pointed out that the GIMP and PhotShop plug-ins "normal map" and "bump map" do not project onto a sphere. However, if a texture has been created that alr...

Re: Post your Celestia pictures!

Here's a system I'm still working on. Based on Monica Hughes "Keeper of the Isis Light" novel. This is the third planet in the system, the texure based on the Air Mountains in Niger... I've been using satellite images lately for textures (mainly desert and ice worlds), and I've been pretty...
