Re: Post your Celestia pictures!

I notice in the SCM repository, the Cassini files in extras-standard are 18 months old now, and the mission data runs out in July 2010. I hopes there's plans for an update to include the extended mission. :) While i was trying to re-create the Janus/Epimetheus transit I did discover this nice alignm...

Re: Post your Celestia pictures!

Cheers bh, I always find the CICLOPS website interesting, and like to see how their planned observations compare with the Celestia Cassini trajectory, then I see if I can recreate some of their images. Not too bad in most cases, although they state that the Dione/Titan haze event was to occur on the...

Yep, and a happy new decade too...
.....although I refuse to accept the growing media viewpoint in this country, that this decade will be known as the Teenies :x

As for me, I'm gonna call it the 10's!

Re: Useful Helpers Repository (Programs/Spreadsheets etc.)

JAQAR provides a free utility which generates xyzv trajectories for interplanetary flight. JAQAR's SwingBy can be used to generate Hohmann tranfer orbits between any of the Solar System planets for any epoch you specify. The free version will find one intermediate flyby which improves fuel usage if...

Re: The Post Your Pictures Thread

'Scuse the bad pictures, but here we see Cham's rainbow has moved to West Yorkshire this evening! http://img526.imageshack.us/img526/1026/0707044kl0.jpg I don't know what's rarer these days - the rainbow or the few rays of sunshine that we had  The picture was taken from my back garden looking...

Re: Apollo 11 mission reconstruction - a teamwork

Version 14.1 !? OMG ! THERE'S A DIRECT LINK TO THE BRAIN with that version ! Where can I download it ? Now that would be something, and I'm no doubt it would lead to some very impressive and accurate installations of Celestia. However, for me (not being a 'scientician') I fear my installation...

Re: Is it possible to add custom star labels?

I checked all of the files in the data directory already, but I didn't think the settings for the labels could be in the celestia.cfg - I thought it was for engine specific settings only... well... thanks again :) Cheers, The method I used above applied to 1.4.1 and earlier versions of Celestia, bu...

Re: Is it possible to add custom star labels?

Hello, Hopefuly this will work :?: If you are changing an existing star open up the starnames.dat that is located in your DATA folder, and add the name that you want to an existing starname using a text editor (eg notepad). Be sure to place the new name at the start, after it's catalogue number. eg ...

Re: Apollo 11 mission reconstruction - a teamwork

So, ok the panels were jettisoned, but any clue when exactly? Here's another link to the useful Apollo Maniacs site which shows a timeline for key events of the Apollo 11 mission. Hopefully these can be confirmed by other documents, such as the NASA Apollo 11 Mission Report PDF file which I've not ...

Re: Apollo 11 mission reconstruction - a teamwork

Can I wish every success to the "Apollo 11 Team" for this project! Can't wait to see it's completion, and to see this historic event represented properly in Celestia - after my feeble attempts using Shrox's old models a couple of years ago or so. Anyway, I might be able to shed some light on ...

Re: Using the Nmtools package

Hello tech2000 and DanielJ I am wondering if Daniel's problem is with the "CHOICE" command in the script. ie choice /c 12345 /N /m "Your choice:" goto answer%errorlevel% I'm not sure all versions of Windows XP has the CHOICE command available. The alternative could be as follows; set /p us...

Re: Celestia 1.4.1

Great to see Celestia is still moving forward, and many thanks to all involved in it's continuing improvements.
I now have 1.4.1pre1 installed and i'm wondering if there is any need for the shader file star.arb.vp which seems to be missing from the windows version ?

Yes, the specular values set in anim8or don't seem to translate to Celestia at all. It always seems to export models with that uniform level of shinyness we can see in your screenshots.

Adding textures might be worth a try ?

Terrier, je ne savais pas qu'on pouvais fournir un lien, c'est pas mal cette option ;-) Cheers Yes cool innit ?8). This is Celestia's "CEL://url" feature. It works OK for Windows users, but it is not compatible with all O.S's /(browsers ?). I think it's MAC users who can't use the links directly. W...

ElChristou, The stack is looking awsome, especially when viewing it with the Florida / KSC high resolution V.T.'s. I just noticed that the model needs 2 or 3 surface normals repairing to the top of the nose cap on one of the SRB's. regards, TERRIER PS Although it would be nice to see some smoke, I'm...

Re: Features request

You can do this already using the Bookmarks menu - it won't drop a navbuoy, but it will remember your location. Unfortunately I think it only remember the location in space , not in time. What would be nice is if BMs could be made relative to planets and other bodies, so you'd have the option of go...
