Re: Are there any known optical or psychological illusions..

That, when looking at a star through a telescope, the star appears to flash? In first : latitude and longitude help us to locate strongly already on the celestial vault. This is the minimum for an "amateur astronomer". Failing that, azimuth and elevation from your coordinates with ...

Are there any known optical or psychological illusions...

That, when looking at a star through a telescope, the star appears to flash? I know it wasn't the twinkling caused by our atmosphere, but I don't know if I was imagining it, but the star I was looking at last night actually appeared to flash, with a greater brightness variation than the twinkling se...

Re: New Version?

Yep, I can completely understand, as I realize I myself have not always been on my best behavior here, alongside others, as well as my similar desires for utmost scientific accuracy, manifesting in different forms, so yes, I do see where Fridger is coming from.

Re: New Version?

I am not surprised. From what I've learned over the years about astrology (my third sky-related passion behind astronomy and weather), and knowing his deep fascination with Saturn, which represents restriction, rigidness, and of course, time, I am not surprised he runs things with an iron fist...

Re: PlutonianEmpire's Circumbinary Reporting Thread

My first inclination was to disagree, on the basis of it being an existing real life star, but after thinking about, that might quite not be such a bad idea, considering most of the data I used for the way I have it set up in my installation of Celestia is derived from personal extrapolations and de...

Re: Recovering lost stargen seeds?

So, stargen will use one seed to make a system, but a different version of the same program (stargen) will use the same seed to make a completely different system?

Also, I did mention that I couldn't find the html file that I used for the system I'm looking at.

Re: Recovering lost stargen seeds?

@ Omega, here's the zip containing the ssc file. It was made around 2006, and is heavily modified, but the original SMA and radii are there, and I used stargen's Solstation catalog for this one, since I always use the solstation catalog. http://db.tt/cPuEqVMG Unfortunately, I don't think atmospheric...

Recovering lost stargen seeds?

I have an old ssc file from several years ago containing planets generated by stargen, for the star Sig Dra, but I can't remember the seed that was used for it. So is there any way to recover it? The html file that was co-generated is missing as well. :? If there isn't a way, then make a way. :P Per...

Re: Current project: Modified Stargen (a solar system genera

Will I be able to set AU limits in the modified version? I would like make some systems for binary systems. Thanks -M- Hey, I've been fiddling around with the 2013 version from the OP, and while I'm sure you and others may have noticed, I think it might be interesting to note that it already does a...

Re: Calculating Barycentre RA/Dec of hyper-wide Binaries?

Well, search engines almost never give me what I'm looking for, so when someone says they get all they need from search engines, I find it genuinely difficult to believe them. I try every combination of terms and expressions that I can think of, and my success rate is still only 10% at best. So eith...

God damn it guys! I'm tired of my questions repeatedly going unanswered. Out of 38 threads that I have started in this subforum alone, at least 8( :!: ) of my questions remain unanswered -- a full 21% of them! Yes, it's spread out over a multi-year period, but it doesn't make it any less infu...

Re: Custom Science-Fiction Pictures from Celestia

Last night, I posted on facebook a gimped photo where I replaced the moon with two moons of one of my planets', and my father made an off-hand(?) comment about them orbiting each other, although I told him they each had their own circumplanetary orbits. But then today, it had me wondering, might tha...
