Re: Ultimate Terraformed Mars MARK III Project Reset

Hey Dean, I should be able to get to the Time Life magazine article shortly if all goes well and I can go into more detail with about about the whole 2bar issue. I have managed to pull my computer and all its associated parts out of storage and should have it setup sometime tonight. I hope everythin...

Re: Ultimate Terraformed Mars MARK III Project Reset

Dean, Below is a segment from the south polar region of said PDF imagery. I have marked the regions of the ancient impact zone for you. As you can see it is half buried by the south polar cap and its associated sedimentary skirt. Its not listed as a crater but it northern boundary is called an escar...

Re: Ultimate Terraformed Mars MARK III Project Reset

OK, Let me try address a few things. First off there is a depression at the southern polar region. I don't have access to my information, its on my desktop computer, but it has a name I just can't think of it off hand. Its an ancient impact zone nearly the size of the Argyre impact basin. It is rath...

Re: Ultimate Terraformed Mars MARK III Project Reset

Dean. "Acrosome", Well let me try and do a little simple explaining. An atmosphere 2.5millibars or 2 and one half times as think as ours has some unique characteristics. One it tend to hold allot more moisture than one bar of air does. So the atmosphere would be a bit more clammy than most...

Improper Use of My Work

Improper Use of My Work I know I haven't been around much in the last few months and there are some good reasons. I haven't been slacking off but let me explain as to why I haven't been reporting on my works first off. First off, At the end of September, I had to put my desktop computer into storage...

Re: Ultimate Terraformed Mars MARK III Project Reset

Hey Frank, I have been toying with the night side lights but I only showed them once in the previous Terraformed Mars thread. I am trying to do something totally new, so I hadn't really planed on using the old lightmap, not that I couldn't if push came to shove. I just wanted to make something a bit...

Re: Ultimate Terraformed Mars MARK III Project Reset

There will be no models of the planet and or surface features. I have played around with the surface feature models in the past that were released. I didn't like the way they worked. They wanted to cast the own shadows, and it just didn't work. So unless the surface models have been fix I am not imp...

Re: Where can I download 128k BMNG Surface Texture?

While all the 128k Earth textures out there are simply an enlargement of an 85k texture, meaning that you are not gaining any more detail than the 85k it does allow for getting a little closer to the surface before it blurs out. Again its a false sens of detail. Of course in my heavy work with textu...

Re: Adding snow to Furahan texturemap

Hey nice to you are progressing nicely. There are two things I might suggest to improve on your texture. 1. The polar cap edges along the ocean are are little to smooth. They should be a bit more irregular with possibly some broken ice flows along there edges. 2. A trick I learned a few years ago wh...

Re: Ultimate Terraformed Mars MARK III Project Reset

Update Time!! I have finally had some time to work on the texture again. I have made the first 16k DDS run of the texture in its present form. The texture has moved forward a little since the last picture I posted. I can't call this even near final as of yet. I discovered after doing the building of...

Re: Work in progress : horizontal layer with man scale

Fridger, Well some may think that last one is a bit to, per say religious, lol. I would think a natural would be the Vitruvian Man myself. Of course finding a 3d model of him may prove difficult. And yes, unfortunately I live in a nation that thinks everyone should look and be just like the sexless ...

Re: Offset of cloud VT

Well maybe your 32K VT has reached an unknown memory ceiling in Celestia. Or that using such a large VT as a cloudmap throws off Celestia's positional calculations a bit. Can't think of any other reason that could be causing it. Have you tried not to implement the clouds on Earth but a transparent s...

Re: Offset of cloud VT

Ok this is probably going to sound dumb, but. It sounds like several rows of tiles somehow got miss labeled. Not enough to throw the whole VT out of whack, but just enough to shift everything over your 60 to 90 degrees. The only way I can think to test this is to restitch the VT as it stands back in...

Re: Planet climate question

PlutonianEmpire, Do you mean sapient as in homo-sapienes ? or sentient. If you are looking to people this planet with humans or even something remotely human like, the likelihood of them parallel evolving as we have would probably have to be zero. The only way to get a "sapient" species wo...

Re: Adding snow to Furahan texturemap

Well for Earth anyway we do have 12 seasonal maps already made by the BlueMarble team, color adjusting not counting of course. There are some very rough areas in their textures that I had started working on almost 2 years ago. I had four or five months taken care of before I stopped the work. I will...

Re: Don. Edwards Texture Tutorials

Well that only answers part of that selden. If you are up in a plane and look down those same forests look very dark indeed. Or if you are standing on another hill or mountain looking at a lower peek, again they are very dark. Just because of there nature plants absorb light. :)

Re: Don. Edwards Texture Tutorials

Coen, The rule of thumb I use is if it looks like pictures of the real thing than you have got it. Yes in orbit your eyes would adjust for any change in brightness. But Celestia is not a real environment. Its a 3D working with layers trying give you a sense of depth and space, all the while projecti...
