Re: Bugs in 1.4.0 final

1. When you change the Timerate from a script command, Celestia still displays <Real Time> on the top right hand corner, whereas it displays the right Timerate when you change it from the <J>/<L> keys. The bug apparently was fixed for CEL-Urls some time ago by Chris, so these should already work co...

Re: DOWNLOAD Celestia patch3 final: sound, image/text overlay...

I can confirm the bug on Linux, not sure why Fridger didn't see it. The problem is that the CelestiaCore class is managing its own value for "timeScale", which is used for the display. However the scripting (and URL handling) code sets the value directly in the Simulation class, so both values get o...

Re: Fraud about Celestia on EBAY

It's hard for me to believe that anyone would need to buy this information at eBay when it can easily be found for free at Google. But if they do, this guy is doing them a favor. So what's the problem? The name "Celestia" is never mentioned, so potential buyers can't google for it. Even the window ...

Re: New spam scripts out, or what?

http://sam.zoy.org/pwntcha/ I'd be interesting to know how many spammers employ anti-Captcha software. Apparently one has to do something unique to keep spammers away. Assuming spammers do only automated registering, even a slight variation might suffice. The URL of the register page could be chang...

Re: New spam scripts out, or what?

There is a visual confirmation code ("captcha") on this forum's Register page. So either it doesn't work correctly, or the spammers have caught up.

Re: Preloading Textures in start.cel

haukew wrote:How can i preload a virtual texture in a .cel-script?

VTs are used to avoid loading a complete texture. So you can't preload it - and you probably wouldn't want to anyway (take a look at the size of the VT on your HD - do you really want Celestia to load the whole thing?).

Re: Are .CEL scripts deprecated?

Harald, I'm wondering if you had any comment on my suggestion in a previous post that CEL scripts might be converted to Lua/CELX with a few trivial syntax changes? There are some problems with this. For instance the CELX goto command is dependent on an observer (i.e. you call the command on an obse...

Re: Are .CEL scripts deprecated?

When I came back, I found that no one really wanted CEL scripts anyway, so I'm in the process of trying to learn the CELX scripting process. I don't think that's true. Most people don't even know the difference. As long as CEL-scripting suffices to achieve what you want to do, then there is no need...

Re: Which is best : PNG or JPG ?

I don't think that's quite technically correct actually. AFAIK, MP3 compression just clips off the higher frequencies. MP3 is much more complicated than that. Many different frequency ranges are removed, depending on which of the frequencies a human listener is (likely) able to hear. JPG compressio...

Re: Outputting HD still frame sequences?

So are you saying that a series of capture and wait commands is the only way to do it? You would have to put them into the original script at the right places. Getting the timing right is difficult. I still don't understand what you are trying to do: if you want to create screenshots suitable to cr...

Re: Outputting HD still frame sequences?

In this case you would have to modify the original script, which requires considerably more work.

Re: Outputting HD still frame sequences?

Is there any way to have Celestia capture an image every X seconds? Other than simply pasting in a bunch of capture commands (which would not be on precise time intervals), I cant figure any way to do it. Any help is greatly appreciated. A CELX script can do that - a few keys won't work while it is...

Re: Shaking my faith in humanity

We need to make the chance. I understand your despair, but the Russian law means the case has to be heard regardless of merit. Sometimes, we have to play the game. That's just the point here: we don't have to play the game, we even can't play the game. Let's assume that this is a publicity stunt: t...

Re: Shaking my faith in humanity

publicity stunts like this should simply be ignored. Actually, I quite like it when this sort of thing happens. It should not be ignored, it should be challenged. It's a great opportunity to point out why the claims are wrong, and a country so full of superstitious people like Russia (sorry, but it...

Besides, I doubt she has any moral problems at all. Clearly, she wants only money out of the whole thing. Not necessarily from the lawsuit though - the publicity is probably worth much more than the bills for the lawyers. So IMHO publicity stunts like this should simply be ignored. But then again m...

Re: Slow forum...

On http://phpBB.com/ there is a message about "DoS scripts circulating". But I don't know if such a DoS could explain the obviously network-related slowness of shatters.net - I'd expect problems with CPU load or a slow MySQL server. Oh, and there is a new version of phpBB too - security fixes again ...

Re: Titan's haze

POVRay was more than likely built using an OpenGL engine... No, it is using good old ray-tracing, which doesn't have much to do with OpenGL. Povray is very old - it started around 1989, long before 3D graphic cards became available for PCs (1996?). Have a look at the images in: ftp://ftp.povray.org...

Hi, I'd like to get some feedback on the idea of replacing the current "preliminary Celestia User's FAQ" by a normal webpage. IMHO this would improve readability and be more user-friendly. The current working version of the FAQ page is here (based on the existing FAQ): http://www.celestiamotherlode....

... for some reason these always download as characters straight into the browser window. The server sends the video using the Content-Type "text/plain" - and your browser (correctly!) tries to display it as text. This has to be changed on the server, but until then you can use right-click and "Sav...
