Re: New "Ultimate" 8k Iapetus Texture for Download

t00fri,
Just glad i could help.

While normally I refrain from using commercial products, this filter seems worth an exception

It appears to have cast a spell on you

Thanks for all your work on these textures.

Re: New "Ultimate" 8k Iapetus Texture for Download

T00fri, Have you tried using a noise filter? My favourite is noiseware from imagenomic. Its very powerful and almost seems to work like magic on certain types of noise, lifting it off while leaving the underlying image completely intact! I use it alot for digital photos. There is a free community ed...

Re: Coloring a 128K Mars texture

The original file is MDIM 2.1 Which can be found at http://astrogeology.usgs.gov/Projects/MDIM21/ I made a 64k vt from this about 9 months ago and put levels upto 32k on the motherlode site. They are in grayscale png format with a 1k tile size. Level5(64k) is ~800mb so i never uploaded it. There is ...

Re: How To Make Cloud textures?

I uploaded the 16k level for my clouds at the weekend. You can get them from from my directory at the motherload. http://celestiamotherlode.net/creators/dbrady/ And a pic.. http://celestiamotherlode.net/creators/dbrady/Clouds16k.jpg There's no data over the poles for this level. However the Tiles ov...

Re: How To Make Cloud textures?

Frank,

Unfortunately i think it may be a bug on your system. Are your drivers up to date? All works fine on my system.
At low altitudes any clouds overhead are perfectly visible.

Ps. The clouds are only 8k at the moment, i havent yet uploaded the 16k level.

Re: How To Make Cloud textures?

I agree with Don etc about using the alpha channel over the colour select tool. Furthermore a number of cloud layers combined are usually needed to make a realistic looking texture. For instance the clouds i'm making at the moment have three layers. 1. I started with t00fri's 2k clouds as a base lay...

Re: New 64k DDS Earth texture

Hi jestr,

Are your 64k earth maps preshaded or flat? I was going to make a flat texture myself but this looks very nice.

Re: Celestia shade off; color problem

I tried The mira addon and it looks to be the same as your picture. I really think thats the way its supposed to look though. Have you a picture anywhere of it looking different? ie. a smoother transition between the colour bands. I guess my problem is different to yours. All i know is that using th...

Re: Steve Albers' Europa texture - revised

Hi jim, Nice textures, especially the normal map. If you're making a dds texture from it you should give ati's new tool a try if you havent already. http://www.ati.com/developer/tools.html Its called 'The Compressionator'. I only found it a few days ago. It is quite slow but has a wealth of features...

Re: Celestia shade off; color problem

Selden, Do you not see the smoother transitions in the greens in the second image compared to the big 'lump' of one shade of green in the first? Its plainly evident on my monitor, mostly around brazil and peru. I'll go look for the pulsar addon and see if i can recreate the other pictures. Can anyon...

Re: Celestia shade off; color problem

I recently noticed that i was suffering from this problem(probably for quite a while). I think there may be alot of other people suffering from it too but they just dont know. How can you tell? Well, In the standard distribution go to earth with its default texture and look at south america. If it l...

Mars 64k ( nearly done )

Some of you may remember that i was trying to build a 64k texture from the MOC data. This map didnt turn out the way i had planned mainly due to substantial amounts of the topology in the texture been relatively faded. It also proved immensely difficult to get it a nice martian colour( in fact i nev...

Re: Celestia Motherlode Launch

Thanks seldon,

I had read that but "much, much" seemed quite vague. Though seeing as jestrs 64k addons can be uploaded there appears to be quite alot of space. I may even upload some things myself.

Re: Chris Please Read This!

Hi selden, Your results are very interesting. It might be worth while repeating them in anim8or with its opengl environment and with its software renderer. This may narrow it down to opengl in general and not celestia. You may also consider using 'GLDirect' to run celestia through directx drivers an...

Re: 32k Earth-Clouds Experiments

Excellent. Thanks wcomer. Thats one of those simple solutions that makes you bang you head wondering why you didnt think of it first!
I am just using the gimp bumpmap filter and layering clouds on top but the solution still applies. Thanks again.

Re: 32k Earth-Clouds Experiments

Daryl, Unfortunately i do not have enough system memory(512) to work with 8x8k images in gimp for assembling the cloud textures. If memory serves me you have double that? As for aliasing at the poles etc, the modis images don't have any data at the poles. They have some similarities to the space-gra...

Re: 32k Earth-Clouds Experiments

Hi Buzz, I'm sorry to say i havent really had a chance to work on this lately. I'm quite bogged down with projects at the moment - final year, final term of college doesnt give you a whole lot of spare time. It's looking like i probably wont get it done for quite a while, maybe even untill i finish ...
