cel script: Is it possible to print text from another file using index?

Hello. I'll have to help a kid writing "a lesson" (a detailed Solar system tour) using Celestia. He will write all the text, i'll do all the programming/scripting part. It could be much easier if he could write whatever it wants on a file (call it "lesson.txt"), and (using a bit ...

Fictional calendar/constellations?

Is it possible to set Celestia working with an alternate calendar?
I mean: if i set up a planet with a day 28h long and with a year of 310 days, could i set and show the date/time related to that planet?

And
There's any way to name and draw fictional constellations?

Help: Angular velocity, and "rendez-vous" formula?

I suppose it should be a simple thing, but i can't solve it.... Suppose i'm on the equator of a planet which have a day of X hours. From there i see a satellite raising each Y hours. What's the formula to find the satellite orbital period? - I'm thinking to a simplified, theoretical system, we can t...

Re: About planets Textures (again, sigh)

thank you so much. It works well :) After all this "work", i think that's a shame that we can't make a complete "retexturing" just in the "extra" folder. If next versions of Celestia can take the clouds map also from addons, it will be a good thing. As a programmer, i can understand the fact that cl...

Re: About planets Textures (again, sigh)

Just to make sure: does your graphics card draw specular reflections in other situations? In particular, do you see specular reflections on the Earth when you select "Normal" in the AltTexture menu? Yes, it works. Exactly what model of card do you have? ATI Radeon X600 If this help, i've seen that ...

Re: About planets Textures (again, sigh)

Selden, as i was saying in the first post, i'm sorry. I have the page open after you first reply. I have just wheeled it too fast, missing the relevant part. Please accept my excuses, i was not lazy, just too fast in "reading". Thanks for your patience. P.S. While answerin i've tryed the just undert...

uhm....switching to an alternate surface turns off specular and nightlight maps...is some related to my ATI card, or it's normal for Celestia?

Re: About planets Textures (again, sigh)

Wildcards don't work in the name of the image file. You have to spell it out. This is a shame. It will be nice to choose various maps using the standard "resolution" switch. If i rename the various 4.8.16k with the same name in the lo/med/hi res folders it will then works? CloudMaps are not applied...

Re: About planets Textures (again, sigh)

A bit more deep: this is a "collection" of lines not working: AltSurface "Don Edwards Realistic Earth" "Sol/Earth" { Texture "RealisticEarth*.dds" CloudMap "clouds-121303-2k.dds" SpecularTexture "EarthSpecular2k.dds" } Are Celestia supporti...

About planets Textures (again, sigh)

Before you all blame me, i want to say that i'm searching from 3 days a "guide" about installing new textures on Celestia. I've downloaded all the guides at motherlode, searched the forum, etc. I can have missed the relevant line in the guide, or the right word in the search textbox.... anyway don't...

"goto beginning" (i mean : set time and position)
"goto Ending"

Re: The Feature Requests Collecting Thread

Request for an "infinite" and "revers" menu tree for objects in SSC. Something like:

Code: Select all

Earth (right click)
 |-Satellites
 |-Spacecraft
       |-Old
       |-Newest
       |-SciFi
            |-MyShips

etc...
all defined in the usual "Parent/Body/..." way in the ssc.

Re: Matrox Parhelia: no fullscreen mode

Boux: I run XP pro, on a P4 1.5Ghz, 768Mb Ram. The Matrox is a AGP with 128Mb. I always switch using the menu command (at least the first time i go in fullscreen mode). About the 2 monitors, they (should) works indipendently: other apps run fine in fullscreen (using only the primary monitor, as the ...

Re: Matrox Parhelia: no fullscreen mode

The first thing to verify is that you have the current Parhelia graphics drivers from Matrox. Updated versions were released at the end of August. Pretty sure about this, anyway i'm at home downloading the latest drivers (no web at office) Also, whatever professional design software is installed on...

Matrox Parhelia: no fullscreen mode

I've just installed Celestia in my office, where i have a Matrox Parhelia configured with 2 indipendent monitor. Switching in fullscreen mode, at any resolution, result in a ultra low resolution with only the cursor visible (and moving). Swithing back to windowed mode does not restore the view: i wi...

I join to this topic to ask about textures (mainly earth): I see that hires textures comes from various artists, some of them i remember there's already long time ago. Can someone explain what difference/compatibility issues/perks and flaws there's between various textures packs? I don't like so muc...

Re: <simple> add-on request

Seems that we are out-tuned. I'm using Celestia from years for the pleasure of using this app. I was trying to build something in 2003 but i've discovered that Celestia needs a lot of knowledge to make thing works. I'm a programmer, i feel better under C++ or VB than all things Celestia uses. About ...
