I don't recommend doing it at all. It's much easier to set up Celestia 1.7, as described in the thread I linked.

why does the [damn] render [limit] even exist There are technical reasons for this, which have been described elsewhere on the forum. why is celestia the only space sim that has a render limit? Is there any way i can get 1.6.1 to render things as far out as M87 or farther ? if so, what do i edit/modify in the files to force celestia to render stars and planets that far out on 1.6.1? The star render limit for all 1.6.x versions is the same - 10 million light-years.

If you're using the Gaia Archive, you can (in the Search -> Basic tab) click "Extra conditions", then "Add condition" (circled). You can then enter the condition you want (in this case, parallax >= 10), as shown in the screenshot.

Update to GCIRS 16SW, a contact binary star at the Galactic Center. The mesh was created using ajtribick's recent Python script, which can be found here. This addon requires Vision's Galactic Center addon, since the star is defined to orbit Sagittarius A*.
