Celestia Worldbuilding Project (archive of deleted posts)

For some reason, Lafuente_Astronomy deleted the first four posts in the Celestia Worldbuilding Project thread with absolutely no prior discussion, so the beginning of CelWP is no longer documented and the original addon files are no longer available. These posts should not have been deleted as they ...

Re: New CelWP project revival

Here's my sort-of contribution to the CelWP: the real high-mass X-ray binary system M33 X-7 . Download here: M33 X-7.zip (I've also added that link to the first post of my addons thread). If you have Luke's Triangulum Galaxy stc file, make sure it's loaded before this addon (for instance, I have all...

Re: Extrasolar, Stars and Exoplanets for Celestia

I guess one-off STCs might as well be posted here. LAMOST J040643.69+542347.8 is a rapidly rotating O-star that was recently discussed on the Discord; here's an STC file for it generated with the CelestiaWriter utility. The oblateness is calculated based on guesses about its mass and radius. "L...

Re: SevenSpheres' Addons

Seems I haven't posted anything here in a while. Anyway, here's an addon for the Alpha Centauri system that I've had for a long time now, that I've updated with the latest data : Alpha Centauri.zip Proxima's planets were previously in the "exoplanet updates" addon, and I had posted picture...

Re: Mobile Celestia for Android beta testing

be sure to relaunch Celestia after crash to ensure a crash report will be sent I just made Celestia crash and relaunched it. Look and see if there's a report. OK, let's just make sure you follow these steps to include an add-on 1. Launch app, for the first time, it should ask for permission to your...

Re: Mobile Celestia for Android beta testing

I have beta 2 installed (I checked Settings -> About -> Version to be sure) and I'm seeing the same crash in search from beta 1 (specifically when I type certain letters, such as "m"). I also installed Vision's Milky Way center addon to "Android/data/space.celestia.mobilecelestia/file...

Re: mars 32K maps: problems with surface maps

But with the 32K, there are too many problems. why so many zip files when the level 5 seems enough to make it work? Higher levels require lower levels. If you want level 5 you need levels 0-4. For more information, see Selden's page on Virtual Textures and his brief how-to . WHy is theree a Mars.ct...

Re: Mobile Celestia for Android beta testing

To compile it, you need to have the original Celestia repo side by side with this Android repo. The building process will compiles source files from Celestia repo and copy content file from Celestia repo too. Since onetwothree is going ahead with CelestiaContent regardless of objections from me and...

Re: Stars orbiting barycenter are not visible

Stars can only orbit a barycenter out to a certain distance (~168 light-years according to Sirius_Alpha), beyond that they won't be visible. It's a limitation of Celestia. Also next time please use a title for your thread that describes its content, rather than just your username.

Re: Mobile Celestia for Android beta testing

I have Android Celestia working on my phone now; for some reason the APK file wouldn't download with Chrome so I had to use Firefox (at Anthony's suggestion). I'll list some thoughts on it. The Sun looks a bit too yellow, I'm not sure what's going on there (it may just be this bug ). Also, is it pos...

Re: New CelWP project revival

With all the strife caused by the CelWP both here and on Discord (and I apologize for being a major part of those arguments), I'm really more interested in seeing the stellar distributions for galaxies and the NGC 604 sprite model that will be coming... Anyway, on to the worldbuilding! (Also, the bl...

Re: What Galaxy Should CelWP be based in?

I agree that there may be logistical reasons why M31 is superior, but as a worldbuilder I don't want to have to be locked by the realms of stars that already exist. I want to create a star of any spectral type, any evolutionary stage, anywhere. And certainly M33 is more convenient in that respect. ...

Re: What Galaxy Should CelWP be based in?

1: Simple. It's it is more homely in there than if it were on a large galaxy(Undoubtedly we live on a large galaxy, so we have different definitions of the word "homely") Also, somewhat secluded, and also less popular in several worldbuilding projects than the Andromeda "Homely"...

This is just wrong on so many levels. How does a smaller galaxy allow for more creativity? Also it is not true that M33 has less real-life data, unless you can find a source for it.

Re: What Galaxy Should CelWP be based in?

M31 is better because it already has not only a stellar distribution with over a million stars, but globular clusters, nebulae, and stars in its satellite galaxies. I cannot understand why M33 would be preferred.

Re: Custom star database causes Celestia to crash when certain keys are pressed

Update: as fyr02 says the bug doesn't occur when there's no font visible, and it seems to only occur in Windows 8 and above, not in Windows 7 (I assume jujuapapa is using Windows 7). I think I know what it is - it's not specific keys, it's attempting to change the visible font that triggers the cras...

Re: Custom star database causes Celestia to crash when certain keys are pressed

selden, that's the same behavior I'm seeing. Do you have any idea why this happens, and/or why it doesn't happen for some users?

(I was able to make the screenshot in the OP by defining the Sun in an stc file, so Celestia automatically followed it on startup.)

Re: Custom star database causes Celestia to crash when certain keys are pressed

None bug or crash for me with Celestia 1.6.2 Yeah it seems to depend on environment. Gurren Lagann doesn't see the bug but fyr02 does. I thought it might be due to the fact that I used makestardb compiled for 1.7, but onetwothree says there have been no changes to makestardb. It's all very confusin...
