Re: Celestia Location Distribution

Lafuente_Astronomy, Thanks for telling me this! gironde was put on the user list as No. 57 but I believe I may have accidentally deleted him. It will be fixed. Edit: gironde is already on the list as No. 9. It's just that he and Péji happen to be extremely close together. In this case I still don't...

Re: Project "Celestia Origin", release dated April 30, 2019

After testing the Ganymede texture provided by Askaniy on DeviantArt and using the normal map from the current CO release, I found that the normal map and the surface map are misaligned on some parts. Checking the Ganymede map with the official USGS found no inconsistencies, so I believe the problem...

Re: Celestia 1.7.0 Development Thread

Completely unrelated to scripting or the current situation, but just something random that popped into my head. Celestia Splash design contest! Once AstroDB is integrated it might be a good idea to redesign the splash for Celestia. We may hold a contest to see what the new splash will be. It would p...

Re: 1K and 2K textures. Is it necessary nowadays?

For moons, definitely keep 1K. The amount of textures that need to be rendered in that case justifies keeping 1K. For single bodies/important bodies (Mercury, Venus, Earth-Moon, Pluto, Mars) lowest resolution can be 2K. For textures that are low resolution to begin with (Uranus, Neptune) keep 1K. Fo...

Re: 3D model of the universe

I believe there is no such program, as visualizing stars takes up a lot of data. If there is a visualization of the Gaia data that might come pretty close. I believe the ones seen in documentaries are simulations and not what the actual universe looks like.

2K should be kept. 1K is really up to you.

Re: fyr02's Fictional System

Added Asodreus orbiting around Koradeon.

Asodreus is a gas giant 87 times more massive than Earth. It sits in Koradeon's Habitable Zone, but as a gas giant it is inhospitable. However, one of its moons, Koleo, has the conditions just right to support life.

Re: Methone and Rhea

I believe I made a texture for Methone based off of the Cassini images in the Solar System Objects for Celestia tab. However the orientation may be wrong (this was before I started using Snowfall's Sphere Painter) I believe the current map is equator at top while the correct orientation should be no...
