Re: oumuamua (disk/pancake)
Cubic's model is based on `Oumuamua light curve data, and is pretty consistent with the "flat pancacke" hypothesis for its shape. There's nothing wrong with filling in our gaps of knowledge about the finer details. It's what you did with the texture. All this, Bayesianism notwithstanding o...

Re: Extrasolar Planets (updated catalogue)
Up to this point, I have been using the formulae in Grant Hutchison's starorbs.xls spreadsheet to convert the orbits of planets as expressed in the literature (that is, with respect to the plane of the sky) to the ecliptic plane which Celestia uses. However, these formulae do not deal well with orbi...

Re: Extrasolar Planets (updated catalogue)
Well, we've got a possible planet orbiting α Cen A from direct imaging. That's exciting. We're also over ten thousand total planets, including the unconfirmed planets , though I look forward to celebrating ten thousand confirmed exoplanets with you all in the near-future. Re: Extrasolar Planets (updated catalogue)
It was a fairly decent month, with numerous updated systems and new planets. January saw the first planet discovered by CHEOPS - HD 108236 f. In a two-planet system, if only one planet has a known inclination, then the programme I use to create this addon will assume the other's is coplanar (or set ...

Ceres 32K Texture Addon
A user Antdoghalo on the Unmanned Spaceflight forum created a 32K map texture for Ceres a few days ago ( here ). I have turned it into a Virtual Texture for use in Celestia. Simply extract the .rar file into your extras folder, as I have already added the .ssc and .ctx files to make it all work. You...

Chang'e 3, 4 and 5 (lunar surface elements)
In an attempt to learn how to make models for Celestia, I have created the Lunar surface elements of the Chang'e 3, 4 and 5 missions. Since I barely know what I'm doing with this, I make no claim to be presenting a high-quality add-on here, and the models should be viewed as more notional than accur...

Re: Extrasolar Planets (updated catalogue)
I hope everyone has had a decent holiday season. This update doesn't really have a whole lot -- apparently the last month has been rather boring. 01 January 2021 - 22 TESS candidate planets added (TOI-2415 through TOI-2436). - 15 TESS candidate planets have been determined to be false positives sinc...

Re: Extrasolar Planets (updated catalogue)
Some new TESS Sector 29 and 30 planet candidates are out. For some transiting planets, the stated inclination in literature (or in the NASA Exoplanet Archive) can be a tricky thing to use. Converting it directly into sky-plane coordinates for Celestia should produce an orbit geometry that has the de...

Re: Should we reply to the WOW! Signal?
What are the G magnitudes of these stars? My concern is two-fold. a) You present a list of fewer than a hundred candidates to search. Given the incidence of transiting planets, it is quite possible that none of these stars host transiting planets in their habitable zones, where the transit probabili...

Re: SpaceStalker's some Kepler's systems addon.
It will still work. If you don't have the star, adding the prefix will create it like normal. If you do have the star though, adding the prefix overwrites it.If I don't have extended stars data file, will the TYC ID work? Or this system just won't be shown?

Re: SpaceStalker's some Kepler's systems addon.
A couple points. You have the TYC ID for some systems but you didn't add it as a prefix (Kepler-19 and Kepler-25). For example, in Kepler-19, you have "Kepler-19:KOI-84:KIC 2571238: TYC 3134-1549-1: ... It would be better to declare the system as 1015493134 "Kepler-19:KOI-84:KIC 2571238: ....

Re: Extrasolar Planets (updated catalogue)
There wasn't a really big batch of TESS TOI's this month. A few TOI's from prior sectors were presented, a few community TOIs, and numerous TESS Community TOIs have received TOI designations, specifically those now designated TOI-2330 through 2375. So many of the "new TOIs" listed here may...

Re: Extrasolar Planets (updated catalogue)
I've seen that Kepler 1625-b appear as sudarsky type I texture but is to 1 AU from Kepler 1625 star (G4) , should be appear as type II because have 250 kelvin Kepler-1625b is assigned a Sudarsky II texture in the exoplanet catalogue. "Kepler-1625 b:KOI-5084.01:b" "Kepler-1625" {...

Re: Extrasolar Planets (updated catalogue)
TESS Sector 27 and 28 planets are out, as well as new planet candidates from Sectors 14-26. TESS has now detected over 3,000 planets and planet candidates. Additionally, with the addition of a few remaining systems, the extrasolar planet catalogue addon now contains all known transiting brown dwarfs...

Re: Extrasolar Planets (updated catalogue)
I've seen other problem, lot of gas giants that are class 2 appear as class 1 or 3 Planet temperatures are calculated by the following. // Get sudarsky class + albedo. double L_star = CalculateLuminosity(); for (int i = 0; i < PlanetList.Count; i++) { // Determine planet equilibrium temperature. Re: Extrasolar Planets (updated catalogue)
TESS Sector 26 planets are out! I've improved the programme I use for this to be able to calculate Mean Anomaly for celestial bodies that have a 3D orbit but whose position on it is given as a position-angle at a certain epoch. This is sometimes done in literature for systems that have very loose or...

Re: 200.000.000 star
A few months ago I generated a stars.dat file that contained a billion (fictional) stars to see how well it loaded in Celestia. The programme loaded up and when it got to stars.dat it just sat there. Task Manager showed it was taking up more and more memory (no doubt due to loading the .dat file) up...

Re: Preliminary release of Red Supergiant catalog
There appear to be a number of stars that lack sourcing information. For a random example, HD 45829. Do you intend to include these for the final version?
