Then try harder.
Funny you should mention Grand Designer... brimstone gamma1.png brimstone gamma2.png brimstone delta1.png brimstone delta2.png These will probably show up in M83 eventually. I find it a lot easier to reference the enhanced Voyager/etc. colors than desaturated "true-color" images. All the s...
An idea... have you thought about using noise to blend between multiple different color ramps? You'd be able to get a lot more color variation, and start to lose some of that synthetic feel procedural textures usually have.
For no particular reason, I thought I'd use LunarCell to make a 4K clone of asteroid.jpg. I couldn't get the exact seed, of course, but with the other settings managed to get it pretty dead-on. rockball.png I also rendered separate diffuse and bump maps because I can. Feel free to make a normal map ...

(for example:cubic's red vortex) To answer your question and drop the SNR in this thread even further... My lensing is fake. The mesh is warped around the center, and there's a sphere inside it with inverted normals to help sell the effect. The only way you can add lensing to your own black holes i...
not the best but usable Emphasis there on not the best . I don't know if I just looked at the wrong files, but they certainly don't look like 4k maps. Seems to me, they've produced ~1.5k maps, upscaled them (badly) and JPEG'd them to hell and back. 2021-02-11 15_10_23-2104212000315-Derived_visible_...

Your textures are probably PNGs, which I think are treated as translucent and mess up depth sorting when they're actually not. Try converting the diffuse textures for opaque materials to JPG.
Something I really want to know though, is how did you do the clouds? The clouds are pretty much just lenticular, cirrus, and altocumulus clouds from free stock photos. Some of them were warped, others heavily sharpened to turn them into masses of fine detail, but it's ultimately all about blending...
My (semifictional) rendition of Neptune as of 2020, with two northern dark spots. I spent what felt like ages trying to get the colors just right, but it's open to debate whether they're even close. On first glance it seems too white, according to the spectrum it's a bit too blue. I've adjusted it t...

This thread will be a compilation of various (mostly texture-related) tutorials that I've found, plus resources like NASA imagery and free stock sites. If you know of any I missed, let me know and I'll add them to the OP. Tutorials Most of these involve Photoshop, but many of them work just fine in ...
Anyone who's tried using NightTextures to make planets glow knows that past a certain point, you just can't make it look good. The results often look something like this. globall2.png The transition from day to night is too sharp, and diffuse shading darkens the texture well before the terminator. W...
In this thread, I'll be posting addons from my (currently untitled) M83 worldbuilding project. First off, the galaxy. I'm using a custom template for M83, plus a slightly modified sprite model LukeCEL sent me on Discord. At some point I'd like to add some more mesh details, but this will do for the ...
The Apollo 17 Blue Marble as a cloud map, with the rest of the planet filled in with 2002 Blue Marble clouds. I couldn't find a copy of the original Blue Marble with enough detail to blend into the 2002 map, so instead I stitched together several zoomed-in photos taken just before the Blue Marble. T...

I went to the Celestia Motherlode website and... it feels like time has stopped and I'm back in the 2000s somewhere. The design's good. But it's... it's outdated too. Besides, it's very inconvenient to view this site from a mobile device. Sorry to necro, but imo, web design in general has been goin...
Here's a brighter version of my star textures... stars1-brighter.png stars2-brighter.png Download (8K) Download (4K) ...and a set of lens flares to go with them. You'll have to add these manually to every star you want them on; I've included some examples. You could also hack the model to add colors...
I'm well aware of that, but that's the highest GD would let me set the noise scale. That scale also lets me tweak the granule noise without having to re-bake the texture every time, as GD only shows a low-res preview while you're editing.FarGetaNik wrote:The sun's granules are way smaller than that.

If you're using these, just be aware that they're ripped from Half-Life 2. (specifically the leaked beta, I believe) You may want to give Valve some credit.fyr02 wrote:Akinuri's Asphalt Textures https://www.deviantart.com/akinuri/art/Asphalt-Textures-217678691
