Re: Solar System Objects for Celestia

Strange, I tried looking for that site some time ago, only to find nothing. I thought it was lost in the sands of time, but you found it.

Also, gironde, where did you find Jestr's website?

You can't, as far as I know.

Re: Solar System Objects for Celestia

I'm happy you've done this. This will save a lot of time that would normally be spent looking through posts.

Re: Solar System Objects for Celestia

That sounds like a good idea. Although it will prevent people from having to scroll through pages of the forum, the topic should be callled "Post your addons here" or similar. That way, it will encourage people to post there.

Re: Solar System Objects for Celestia

To avoid confusion, you should probably rename this topic as I have a topic with the same name. If you could do this it would be greatly appreciated.

Andropolis system update

I have created an updated version of the Andropolis system on the Motherlode that contains all the files packaged into one. Along with that, a few things have also been corrected to ensure that it works perfectly. The zip file is attached here and here's a link to the original addon: http://celestia...

Re: The first version of Celestia

Something I noticed is that in solarsys.ssc, there's a commented out entry for the USS Enterprise. I also noticed that everything was included in that file before they branched off to their own files. Also, stars used to be included in .ssc files before being defined in .stc files.

Re: The first version of Celestia

How did you get it on Windows 2000? If it's a virtual machine, how did you transfer the files?

Re: The first version of Celestia

Yup. In fact, when I first tried it out, I had no idea how to navigate since right-click dragging didn't work!

Added after 3 minutes 51 seconds:
Also an interesting fact, the texture files date back to 1999 and 2001. This could mean that development likely started in 1999 or the textures were just old.

Re: Another communication method for Celestia

There was an already existing subreddit called r/CelestiaSpace but it's been inactive for quite some time.

Re: Spacecrafts for Celestia

Searching Pioneer Venus Orbiter or Pioneer Venus Multiprobe on Google images does yield decent results for pictures of the spacecraft itself.

Re: Spacecrafts for Celestia

I have two missions that sound like they would be good for Celestia. The Pioneer Venus Orbiter and Pioneer Venus Multiprobe. After searching through the internet, I was unable to find 3D models of the probes or trajectory data, so you may have to create them on your own.

Re: Spacecrafts for Celestia

Was the model made from scratch or was it an enhancement of a previously existing model?

Very nice! I'm sure that if Jack Higgins (the original author of the model) was still here, he would be very impressed with your work!

I think he's a possible spambot who will edit his post to have links later.

Added after 10 hours 25 minutes:
Edit: I believe it is a spambot. His signature has a link to a website that is not Celestia related.

A bit sad, to see I'm not a moderator, but I won't complain. I'm sure Lafuente_Astronomy, Art Blos, and pirogronian will do their job very well.
