Ahhh, so it's an art program. Well, I'm not sure if anyone here in Celestia has ever used Gimp to make planets. If any, you may have to ask the devs

Well, do you mind telling us what "The Gimp" is, so that we can understand where you're going?

Re: Extrasolar, Stars and Exoplanets for Celestia

Update: As some of you have seen, I've merged this with LukeCEL's post earlier today, because I was attempting to merge posts related to the addons topic at hand into a singular post wherein all addons related to the topic of said post would be placed in. As it turns out, it was a very bad move, so ...

Re: Populating WLM (and other galaxies) with REAL stars

The merge was because I am currently merging some of the previous addons threads about Extrasolar, Stars and Exoplanets in Celestia, in an attempt to unify those addons so that anyone who wants to look for them need not go further and backwards in time, since several good addons may have been lost o...

It does. It's entitled "Extrasolar, Stars and Exoplanets for Celestia". It should be among the announcement posts

Re: Celestia 1.7.0 Development Thread

Precisely in the same way as inside Milky Way. And the same for other objects, even whole galaxies. UID is object-type agnostic. The only thing we must care on is unique assignation of UID by Celestia data maintainners. We must cooperate to ensure that no UID will be used for more than precisely on...

Re: Celestia 1.7.0 Development Thread

Hello everyone! Mind if I ask if the Universal Celestia Catalog allows arrangements for the identities of stars in other galaxies. Insofar as we're concerned, the catalogs here only work on Milky Way Stars, so I'm asking if the astrodb code allows for catalogs of stars outside of the Milky Way. Than...

Re: Extrasolar Planets (updated catalogue)

You can’t call your add-on fictional, precisely because the objects are real. Approximate (logically thought out) parameters are often found in other areas of astronomy. Just here we are faced with the limitations of science. Agreed. We may have to wait for more advance satellites and technology to...

Re: Extrasolar Planets (updated catalogue)

Mmm, can you clarify? The SDSS is a huge survey, with many data releases and resulting catalogues. And I couldn't find any of them have galaxy morphological classifications, which are necessary to write galaxies in Celestia. They are merely spots which indicate galaxy locations, hence the "Not...

Yup. The idea is just like "Spacecrafts for Celestia", the purpose is to keep any related addons into a single thread.

Re: Extrasolar Planets (updated catalogue)

Also, before I do a galaxy catalogue, I need to know which data sources to use. I think it is possible to add the UGC galaxies in Celestia, a bit less sure about MCG, and probably not PGC. While it's not wholly accurate but you can use the SDSS Catalog as well, since so far, it's the most massive a...

Re: Solar System Objects for Celestia

Hello. Sorry for late reply. I mean, that's the one thing I somewhat dislike about this Forum, that it does not notify you if there are any new posts or replies even if you bookmarked and subscribed that topic. I have to constantly refresh the page to see new notifications, which becomes a big probl...

Re: An opinion on orbits.

That should be in there. Especially if you don't want to overload your Celestia with countless orbits which are unnecessary. However, there should also be an option to activate or deactivate orbits for marked objects. As such, I'm in agreement with this suggestion.

Re: Celestia 1.7.0 Development Thread

Something like this is a primary reason I started working on Celestia at all When finished, my branch astrodb should be able to unload objects on demand, what have to be a step towards automatic loading/unloading. Of course (un)loading objects based on visibility would require new data format. In G...

Yup. Exoplanets and Stars have already been dealt with. A galaxy catalog is needed, as well as stars within those galaxies, which LukeCEL has already started some time ago.

Re: Solar System Objects for Celestia

To avoid confusion, you should probably rename this topic as I have a topic with the same name. If you could do this it would be greatly appreciated. I have a much better suggestion: I have the power to merge your posts into one. What I'll do is that I'll merge them and create a single post entitle...

Re: Celestia 1.7.0 Development Thread

Assuming for a moment someone puts a gigastar catalog for celestia together. Then I hope that someone makes the database load in distance order so a spherical map can be maintained. This would enable the user to limit how many stars are loaded by setting things like max memory to be used. Janus. We...

Re: Celestia 1.7.0 Development Thread

A further consideration is that some stars are in Gaia DR1 and not in Gaia DR2, and some are in Gaia DR2 but not Gaia DR1. I'm wondering if we should rely on the 2MASS catalogue for an internal ID and simply get our data from Gaia. At least 2MASS is consistent. For example, KOI-1029 has a DR2 but n...
