Re: Populating WLM (and other galaxies) with REAL stars
Hello everyone! I'm currently on hiatus from Celestia-related stuff, but in the meantime I have a small add-on. This adds the globular cluster in Wolf-Lundmark-Melotte (WLM). Parameters from Stephens et al. (2006) : "WLM-1: An old, Nonrotating, Gravitationally Unperturbed, Highly Elliptical Ext...

Could you give some more details? In what direction do you want to rotate your model 90 degrees?

Re: SevenSpheres' Addons
Hi Endeavor35 , It seems that Celestia can't find the proper parent bodies. The first thing I would do is to check that the files m_32.stc and andromeda_galaxy.stc are there - the latest versions can be downloaded here and here , respectively. I also see that you're using macOS - unfortunately macOS...

Re: Celestia Motherlode archive on GitHub
Wonderful! Thanks for bringing the Motherlode back up.
Can you clarify what this means?

A while ago I compiled the cmodview utility on my computer. I'm not sure if it'll work on macOS Catalina, but I'll post it here.

Re: Elliptical and Lenticular Galaxies: An Experiment
it would be better if luke showed you how to change colors and brighten it so you get get it brighter and a creamy white as in the pic of the real thing The colors are derived from color indices from two papers ( Buta et al. (1994) and Buta et al. (1995) ); I transformed them using FarGetaNik's col...

Re: Request WD 1586 and its planet WD 1586 b
That great resource has WD 1856 b, not WD 1586 b. I know they are easy to mix up 1856......1586.... You're right, they're easy to mix up... I even wrote 1586 in my own post. :insane: But it looks like the article https://gadgets.ndtv.com/science/news/exoplanet-wd-1586b-discovered-nasa-tess-2296737 ...

I would recommend Sirius_Alpha's exoplanet catalogue. It has all known exoplanets and is updated monthly, and it has WD 1586 b.

Updated Binary Star Catalogue
Hi everyone, A while ago on the Motherlode, I uploaded a catalogue of binary or multiple stars in Celestia, replacing 130 or so stars (with Bayer or Flamsteed designations) with binary systems using available data. Unfortunately, at the time of writing the Motherlode is still not functional, so I ca...

Here's a recently-discovered triple star system. TIC 278825952 consists of three stars, two of which are similar and on a tight, nearly circular orbit, and the third, which is on an unusually circular orbit around the two. Parameters from Mitnyan et al. (2020) . Barycenter "TIC 278825952" ...

Re: I'll need some help with the globular clusters
Hi Spaceman ! I tried your DSC code and it worked for me. MagniCluster.png The only "wrong" with your DSC file is that the RA is too high - for DSC files the RA is in fractional hours, not degrees, so it goes from 0 to 24. However, the globular will still work, it'll just be placed in an u...

Here's a very low-mass eclipsing binary. NGTS J0930-18 has an M0V star and a companion just above the hydrogen-burning limit. Parameters from Acton et al. (2020) . Barycenter "NGTS J0930-18" { RA 142.56666667 Dec -18.84267222 Distance 742.614 } "NGTS J0930-18 A" { OrbitBarycenter...

Re: Populating WLM (and other galaxies) with REAL stars
Here is an update to the Draco Dwarf add-on. The main change is a new orbital definition for the symbiotic star [ALS82] C1, also known as Draco C1. The parameters come from Lewis et al. (2020): "Geometry of the Draco C1 Symbiotic Binary".

Re: Nebulae in Celestia using sprites
GK Per (Firework Nebula) GK Per has a very unique appearance, as its nova outburst in 1901 ejected a lot of mass. This mass is visible to us as numerous streaks of red, which I believe is H-alpha emission. Anyway, if you look at a picture of GK Persei, you can see how the nickname "Firework Ne...

Re: Populating WLM (and other galaxies) with REAL stars
This add-on adds over 190 stars to the Ursa Minor Dwarf Galaxy . Despite having over a thousand listed children in SIMBAD, I excluded most of them because they had an average membership probability under 90%. That being said, the leftover stars had a relatively large amount of photometric data, whic...

Re: Populating WLM (and other galaxies) with REAL stars
I've gone around and fixed a few of my add-ons. M 33 / Triangulum Galaxy: The problematic system here was M33SSS J013300.38+303416.8. It is listed as a Mira variable, but the V-magnitude from SIMBAD makes it unrealistically bright, and thus, large. I've changed the spectral type from "MIII"...
