Re: Celestia 1.6.2 is out

Congratulations to the development team!! I uninstalled old v1.6.1 and installed new v1.6.2. Does it support GAIA database yet?

Thanks!

Splitting big planet bitmap into titles

Does anyone know any tools or codes for splitting huge planet bitmap like blue marble bitmaps into individual tiles at LOD levels?

LANDSAT images

I am looking for bulk download access for global dataset. I can expect 1 TB dataset for 30m resolution LANDSAT images (3 TB dataset for 15m resolution). I can't find any sources to provide that data access but some sites only provide browser to select area to download specific dataset. Does anyone k...

Heliocentric Sync reference frame

Folks, I now found solution. That script is not needed anymore but can add reference frame in frame.cpp would be called 'BodySyncFrame'. Here is very simple formula in computeOrientation. q = lookAt<double>(center, target, {0, 1, 0}); Where center = position of earth target = position of sun Now vie...

Voxel terrain?

Since I googled for some GPU terrain mapping, I discovered that new terrain techniques called voxel (volumetric) terrain. That allows formation of caves and arches, etc. Also example is Avatar planet.

Have anyone worked on it for Celestia yet?

Re: Second Gaia data release is tomorrow, 25 Apr 2018

Thanks for let us know when DR2 is now available. I did downloaded Gaia Sky package and Gaia DR2 archives. I executed Gaia Sky with default package. Very interesting! It immediately resulted image of Milky Way cloud from particles database! I am now learning how Gaia Sky handle very large particle d...

Re: Earth street-level VT data files?

I googled and researched some sources. I learned that street-level VTs requires extremely large dataset like 4 TB data files(!). I looked into Blue Marble and Landset datasets. Blue Marble can hold 6-7 levels (128K pixels). Landset 7/8 can hold 10 levels (1024K or 2048K) that Orbiter 2016 use for lo...

Re: Earth street-level VT data files?

Orbiter 2016 is using 32GB packed compressed data files (76 GB uncompressed data files when unpacked and uncompressed) that give much clear textures when you are landing, taking off and launching across lands. Ok, I got it. Thanks for Venus package. I will look into that. I have new star VT files th...

Re: Earth Night (64K)

I think that problem is only one color for entire night light textures. I had seen some ISS pictures showed that colorful night lights (not only yellow but some blue (LED lights), green, and others).

Earth street-level VT data files?

Folks, I searched for some earth texture packages but they have only few LOD levels (4-5). Orbiter 2016 is doing LOD level 19 to see street-level textures that is designed for landing, taking off and launching. That hold 32GB data files. Does anyone have deeper LOD levels of earth textures for Celes...

Re: 1 billion star ESA Gaia catalogue in Celestia?

I am working on CAELI which is Celestia and I am currently working on getting 1 billion objects into CAELI. A script might have to be written to import ESA GAIA .csv files. I am working on it. CAELI is at http://illimitae.com CAELI is now running 64 bit and a beta for MacOs will be ready most likel...

Re: Cube maps

ok, the code has changed now ... http://www.kai-soft.co.uk/GLUT_mmps_planet.tar.gz this time the program has zoom functionality on the right button, and rotation with either the mouse or the IJKL keys. The 'space' key stops the rotation. I have created a cubemap texture set using MMPS to demonstrat...

Re: Fusing Celestia with Proland?

Yeah. I hope that Proland and Space Engine would be implemented into Celestia. Also my OFS program that I am actively developing.

I have a book called "3D Engine Design for Virtual Globes". That is very good programming book.

Re: Rotating planet moves across stars - Sun-sync planet coordinate

I am not quite sure what you want to do, but in Celestia you can just select the sun by pressing "H" then follow "f". Now you can speed up time to see planets pass by, or you can press "ctrl+g" to land on the sun and rotate with it. I did trying that but that earth mov...

Rotating planet moves across stars - Sun-sync planet coordinate

I have great idea for sun-sync planet coordinate system that faces sun at (0, 0). That is great view to see rotating planet with orbiting moons move across stars. That indicates that planet is orbiting around sun (star). That is good for education. I did tried that on Celestia 1.6.0 with 100x time s...
