Re: Gaia search question.
@SevenSpheres Thank you very much. All of that information, and they fail to provide illustrations. Stuck in their own world where everyone who belongs already knows everything, so no explanation needed. Not their fault really, translating is hard. Could I impose further and ask how to determine dop...

Gaia search question.
Does anyone here know how to do a search of the Gaia data for a specific subset? In particular what I am seeking is extra solar objects with a parallax > 0.01 Or parallax > 10, depending on which way it is written out. I need position, proper motion, relative velocity, and whether it is approaching ...

Re: Historical modelling
Question. Could @grad_student use something like https://www.cosmos.esa.int/web/hipparcos/high-proper-motion to create an addon which would adjust the positions of high proper motion stars? The list above is the top twenty, but more extensive lists should be available. I realize the target period wo...

Re: "Orbit Object" Speed
Be sure to save it in text only, ascii mode. Any extended characters and parsing will fail. Characters between 0x20 & 0x7F only, a single utf-8 character can break things. Notepad++, encoding ansi is the safest for windows. Convert to ansi if it is not already checked. All windows editors like t...

@Rockhead1959
With celestia closed, not running.
Open celestia.cfg in a text editor.
Locate the line below, about 2/3 of the way through.
You can also use ctrl-f in many programs.
RotateAcceleration
The default is 120.0, whereas I set mine at 10 or 15.

@All,
Really, I appreciate the all the effort, truly, but the truth is I am just big boned, nothing to be done for it.

@Endeavor35
Have you tried wine for running windows programs on mac.
I don't use mac, but according to their website, they support it, and it is open source as well.

Re: Spherical Mirror Projection?
@Lendonqiwi If I understand you correctly, you are asking about the use of spherical projection with a curved monitor. If so, then the spherical projection will not help you. In part this is because monitors mostly display a ribbon at the equator, whereas spherical projection includes the sky. The i...

Before the current world's mess started, which has taken over my life, not a day of in months. :hi: Love the money, need a break, getting paid to well to let myself care :> :fie: I was working on this problem as well. My first method is to start with a 250LY bubble subset of gaia. Load it and test i...

I have a November of 2019 crawl of motherlode. (~60Gig)
Here is a listing
If anything I have is newer, just let me know.
You might also want to look at https://www.jcvignoli.com/celestia/?lang=en
It is a dual language celestia site.

Re: Does anyone have this Earth with 1000M water drop as texture?
I find things like this interesting. One of my long term goals is create my own stand alone version of google earth on my own server. I want to play with ocean heights etc, but that is a long ways away. I do not currently have a spare server to give me all 197Million square miles of earth in real ti...

Re: several Celestia version
@gironde I don't install anything to C: unless I have no choice at all. Even then I do not use the program files gibberish if I can avoid it. Programs are put into categories off the root: Games, Astronomy, Text, etc. None of my work is kept on C, I only copy it over so everything is compiled and po...

Re: several Celestia version
I am on windows so what I do may directly apply. I have two methods I use. First:Give each version a distinct name in the same directory. Celestia-161_x86.exe Celestia-161_x64.exe Celestia-????_x??.exe Etc. This runs all the versions with the exact same setup. Second:Create a Celestia subdirectory. ...

Re: Schmidt's Solar system tour v1.1
Does it display any of the planets, or just stop at the preload? Either way, I would start the troubleshooting in the notspecifiedtype() routine. The scripts were written pre new horizons, before some people I disagree with decided pluto was not a planet. I think they are wrong and in this specific ...

Re: Schmidt's Solar system tour v1.1
@raylier Try something like this. I didn't run it, this is off the cuff. The problem is that because of the unitized nature of object storage, SOL, the planets, the moons, dwarfplanets, minormoons and such are all in one list, which is cycled through. In order to only see the planets, you have to fi...

Re: Hypothetical Bodies
@Joey.P RE:Vulcanoids. Your post reminded me something I hadn't thought of in years. For laughs. In a world I created for one of my many unfinished books, Starting is easy, finishing is hard, very hard. Anyway, I posited, then tried to make a case for Mercury being the core of a now extinct small ga...
