Re: Celestia 1.7.0 Development Thread

It installs the English version, but it's OK for me. I think it is not following the language of the OS.

Otherwise there are no installation or security problems.

The add-ons are working, but there is a serious glitch (?) in the graphic representation of planets.

Re: Celestia 1.7.0 Development Thread

Well, it works. There are no security related or installation problems. Virustotal says it is 100% clean.

But where is the extras folder?

Where can I put my add-ons?

And where are the new functions?

You have to find the archived version manually. There are a lot of saved versions. Please share the link, if you find it.

At this resolution (256k texture) using a "flat" sphere is clearly not enough.

These are mountains projected on a sphere and no amount of light effects can hide that.

Re: Which are the most underdeveloped parts of Celestia?

Don't ask too much of Celestia. All of the above requires a huge amount of data. I think these can be solved by relatively simple methods. Solution 1: "Movie" GIF files as textures Solution 2: Temporal textures: I mean a texture should have a TEMPORAL COORDINATE assigned to it. Like: temp...

Re: Which are the most underdeveloped parts of Celestia?

For me the biggest problem is the lack of real time editing of add-ons.

It can be very-very-very frustrating.

I know it is related to the core logic of the software design, but this is the most frustrating part for me.

Which are the most underdeveloped parts of Celestia?

This thread is about criticizing Celestia. Not the development team, just the current state of the software and it's add-ons. As I see, some of the new members are trying to express their frustration in other topics, which can be problematic. We should centralize all the frustration. So let's blow o...

Full-scale preparation for the new release has begun! Great! Would you be so kind to share the pre-release exe file with us? You can use a password protected 7z file and send a PM with the password, to limit the release to the registered forum members. If there is only 70% compatibility, that's a l...

Re: Celestia 1.7.0 Development Thread

It would be very nice to have a pre-release version of 1.7 (Win10 64bit). Some of us have hundreds of add-ons and problems can arise. It would be useful to test the program with these add-ons before it gets released.

Re: Pictures from Celestia

From Wikipedia: Methone has two different sharply defined albedo regions, one distinctly (~13%) darker centered on Methone's leading point.[6] Its brighter area has an albedo of ~0.70.[6] UV and IR spectra gave no indication of a color difference between the two regions, suggesting that a physical r...
