Re: Calculating conjunctions

I should have been more specific.
"Full"=+ or - 12 hours of full phase. (Assume a 24 hour day)
"Conjunction"= within one degree.

Calculating conjunctions

How would one go about calculating the conjunctions of moons? What I''m interested in is finding out how often two moons would appear in conjunction in their full phase. So, assuming the moons have nearly identical orbital planes, how often would the inhabitants of a planet see as shown below? Assume...

Re: Adjustng the planetographic grid

Because I'm a thousand miles away from my computer right now and I don't have the software to shift the texture. So that's why I wondered if there was a simple way to move the grid. It's no big deal though. I'll just wait and later, once I'm home, I'll just shift the texture like you said. Thanks.

Ok.
Just thought there might be an easy way to move the grid.
Thanks.

Adjustng the planetographic grid

Can you move the planetographic grid? I'd like to make the prime meridian align with a certain spot on my planet.

Re: Planetshine

lodgy, Thanks for the link. That's a very interesting thread. It still doesn't explain why the mesh is casting so much light, and it does it whether the emissive expression is set to True or False. But I can live with it. At lease I know where it's coming from and that it's not something on my part ...

Re: Planetshine

Hmm. Changing the color values didn't change anything, but I think I found the problem, although I don't understand why it's doing it. There is a .3DS mesh around the planet containing a .png image of a forming ring. When I remove it as follows: #"Corona C" "HIP 500273/Archeon" #...

Re: Planetshine

I checked to make sure the planet was not emissive, and it's not. But even if it were...emissive objects don't really emit light, do they? They just look bright and don't have shadows, right?

Re: Planetshine

Hi lodgy,

There is only one star in the .stc file.

Whenever any moon is on the sunlit side of the planet, the side of the moon facing the planet will light up as well as the side facing the sun.

Re: Planetshine

Windows 7 There is no alpha channel or specular setting to the moon texture. Incidentally, this is only one of several textures I tried on this moon since, at first, I thought it might be the texture. I've even tried different textures on the planet but the same effect occurs on any moon facing its ...

Planetshine

Not quite sure this is a bug, but this only happens to one planet. What determines the amount of planetshine? I have ambient light set to none. All my planets generate a very dim planetshine, which is great. It looks correct. But I have one planet whose planetshine is almost equal to direct sunlight...

I hate that program with a passion, because a) none of my computers can support it, or even OpenGL 3, b) it is trialware, meaning you have pay for full use of the damn thing, c) my life situation ever since my folks kicked me out prevents me from ever being able to accumulate the money for a new la...

Re: My change to the Celestia.cfg file won't take.

Ok. Wait. It seems that just now I was accidentally saving my backup .cfg file instead of the one in the new Celestia folder. Too many windows open at once. I saved the .cfg file in the new Celestia folder in Notepad++ and it worked! Man! Things like this are not fun. So, I guess we should chalk it ...

Re: My change to the Celestia.cfg file won't take.

Ok. Downloaded Notepad++. Opened the .cfg file in Notepad++, and saved it. Launched Celestia, but there were no changes. I then went and got my backup copy of the .cfg file, opened it Notepad++, and saved it. I swapped it back into the Celestia folder. Launched Celestia, but there were no changes. T...
