Re: Celestia 1.7.0 Development Thread

Unfortunately, both.

FWIW, builds by Janus (maybe a year or so ago) included both executables in the Celestia directory and they both seemed to work OK. He might be able to help.

Re: Unable to get either .3ds or .cmod files to load more than one texture

You might consider asking someone to help when you find models that you'd especially like to have translated into CMOD format, Translating from OBJ to CMOD usually is relatively straight forward, although sometimes tedious.

ibiblio provides web space for the Celestia Motherlode. Unfortunately, ibiblio suffered a major system failure. They're still working on restoring services.

Re: Simulate spaceship

There is an Addon which makes it possible to add a "spaceship cockpit" to Celestia. Unfortunately its author can no longer provide support for it, but it is available in the thread https://celestia.space/forum/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=17419 You can find discussions about this type of Addon...

Re: Virtualtex taking too LONG

All of the items you mention combine to cause problems. The in-memory image that's being cut up is at least 1.5 GB. (32Kx16Kx3 bytes/pixel) plus the sizes of internal scratch files and input and output files. The 1GB file is caused by ImageMagick not having access to enough ram, so it creates a &quo...

Re: Creating Realistic Gas Giant Textures

It seems to build and run OK under Cygwin under Windows 10, but runs absurdly slowly. By default it builds only a single-threaded version. I'm not going to try to build a multi-threaded version, though. It'll probably be another half-hour before I see any results. I plan to upload a zip containing a...

Maybe. I've never tried to do it using GProjector. I'm used to using scripts and often find that GUI programs make unwarranted assumptions.

Re: very annoying cloud bug

As I wrote previously, you need to provide a copy to the forum of the failing cloudmap surface texture image and of the SSC which you use so that an expert can examine them. In other words, put those two files into a Zip archive and upload that Zip archive here. Here are step-by-step instructions wh...

Re: very annoying cloud bug

Sorry, but Cloudmaps must be either PNG or DDS/DXT with an 8-bit transparency (Alpha) channel. Jpeg does not support the use of an Alpha channel. The Alpha channel is what defines the outlines of the clouds: the regions between the clouds must be transparent.

Re: very annoying cloud bug

I've seen symptoms similar to that when the clouds' PNG was in a format that Celestia doesn't understand (e.g. 16bit Alpha channel). Which version of Celestia are you using? Also, to make it easier for someone to help debug, please provide the cloud texture image and the SSC that you used to draw it.

Re: Random gas giant

I've used MMPS to convert between cubemaps and equirectangular ones. It's a command-line program which can convert between several popular map projections. Although initially written for Linux, it works fine under Windows when built under Cygwin. See http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~arcus/mmps/ If ...

Re: Current project: Modified Stargen (a solar system generator)

I dunno if the errors would be affected by providing an output file spec, but you probably should give that a try instead of just going with the defaults. Certainly something is causing confusion, though, since the default output is supposed to be html, not csv. See below. The output file formats ar...

Re: Current project: Modified Stargen (a solar system generator)

Two possibilities I can think of: 1.You might not be running the copy of stargen that you think you're running, since your stargen command does not specify where stargen is located. 2. stargen might be having problems writing its output file. See below for details. ======== 1. Did you copy stargen t...

Re: Current project: Modified Stargen (a solar system generator)

The critical sequence of four words in three commands is deceptively simple: cd build cmake .. make (Note the space and two dots after the command cmake, which you didn't mention.) Below are the gory details of the procedure that I followed. I've included a few samples of the output that cmake and m...

Re: Current project: Modified Stargen (a solar system generator)

There should be a file in "CMake Files" named "CMakeOutput.log" which should contain a history of what cmake did. FWIW, I used the command-line version of cmake, which put the stargen executable in the current default directory. In my case, that was stargen-master/build Note that...

Re: Moving my old add-ons

One problem that I see is that the spelling of the directory name is incorrect: it should be "textures" not "Textures". Linux distinguishes between upper and lower case. I'm surprised you didn't get lots of other errors about missing image files. Edited to add: The lack of error ...

Re: Moving my old add-ons

If you are willing to provide the contents of your .ssc file plus a listing of the associated files, that might help someone to notice the problem. Specifically, to generate the file listing, cd to the directory where your .ssc is located and type the command ls -lR that'll list the files in the cur...
