Re: Improving the Celestia Wikibook

Instead of changing the name of the Albedo parameter, I suggest implementing <bond> and <normal> as optional units specifications, in the same way that <km> and <au> are allowed to specify units of distance. If Celestia stops recognizing the parameter Albedo in SSC files, it'll break all existing Ad...

Re: Stars render as squares

On computers with Intel graphics hardware, stars are drawn as squares when using "Star style: points" while using "Render path: OpenGL Vertex Program" and "Render path: OpenGL 2.0". Stars are drawn properly for "Star style = scaled discs" and for "Star st...

Re: Stars render as squares

That is a symptom of using Intel graphics hardware. :( If you type Ctrl-S several times while running Celestia, that'll select other Star Styles, one of which might be better. I've added an explicit entry for this in the FAQ, which can be seen at https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Celestia/FAQs#Square_St...

Re: Can't Launch celestia ( as if itsnt installed at all) - ubuntu

Also, verify that Celestia's (celestia-qt's) binary is marked as "executable". There should be several "x" in the protections field of the "ls -l" command. The example below is for Celestia v1.6.1. $ cd /usr/local/bin $ ls -l Celestia -rwxrwx---+ 1 Administrators None 2...

CC and Gurren, Exactly what links aren't working for you? I can try to report them to the people who manage the site. I just did a quick test and all of the links that I tried worked fine for me. Of course, that's 16 hours after CC was having problems. Also, I'm in the US, which might or might not b...

Re: Comet 67P from 3ds to cmod

Unfortunately, the 3DS mesh doesn't contain any texture coordinates, so you can't map any textures onto it. You'll have to contact whoever created the mesh and ask to have it repaired. Perhaps some method of recreating the 3DS mesh from the original model would work. Also, the mesh isn't oriented co...

Re: Changing star designators, pros and cons

The ability to specify the various SSC units ( <deg>, <au>, <km>, etc.) should be in v1.7. It is present in the source code on SourceForge, so it's in the GitHub code unless someone deleted it.

Re: Graphical interface Lua Universal Tools v5.0 beta - RELEASE ! (new edition 14.12.2017)

I'm assuming you're running under Windows. If you haven't already done so, you might want to consider re-installing Celestia into a folder that you own, rather than the default installation location in the system's Program Files directory. More recent versions of Windows have become more and more pr...

Re: Time to restart development.

Try turning off some of the Render View Options which are related to drawing planets to see if that makes any difference. For example, objects are drawn red when Celestia v1.6.1 tries to use "too many" shader scripts. This often happens when a planet is orbiting more than one star so that ...

Re: Updated stars.dat for Celestria using Gaia data

The "Simbad" stars.dat uses Gaia DR2 positions whenever possible. (Like DR1, DR2 does not provide positions for the brightest stars: they saturate many pixels of the detectors, making it very difficult to measure their positions. Perhaps a later data release will manage to measure them.) I...

Re: Time to restart development.

John, If your addon is too big, please try to duplicate your problem with something simple, perhaps just using Celestia's solar system. He wants Celestia URLs so he can tell Celestia to go immediately to exactly what you are looking at with the same settings as you are using so he can reproduce the ...

There are several improvements which are documented for v1.6.0 and v1.6.1 but which have not been moved into the main body of the document.

Re: Help with Anim8or

Unfortunately, all I can say is that it works fine for me. However, since you didn't provide either the .ssc that you're using or the folders that the files are in, I had to create my own. This makes me suspect that your problem is that the surface texture image files aren't in the correct location,...

Re: Time to restart development.

Bordershed,

If Celestia's v1.7's main window is empty (white), that suggests that there's an OpenGL incompatibility. i.e. 3D graphics isn't working.

Please select the Help menu item "OpenGL Info" and show us what that says.

As a separate test, does Celestia v1.6.1 work OK?

Dropped support for pre OpenGL 2.1 hardware It would be greatly appreciated if support for Open GL v1.1.0 could be restored. When using an iPad running iOS v12 and Microsoft's Remote Display app to display a Windows computer screen where Celestia is running, only OpenGL v 1.1.0 is available. See th...

Re: disable the night texture?

Night Textures are not visible if Celestia is in "Render path: Basic".

Type a Ctrl-V several times to step through the rendering modes which are available on your computer. "Render path: OpenGL 2.0" provides the most eye candy.
