Re: Celestia 1.7.0 Development Thread

The problem goes away when either "Cloud Shadows" or "Clouds" is deselected. Disabling "Eclipse shadows" makes no difference. The problem actually seems to happen only when the object's shadow is *not* being drawn on the Earth. I have no additional light sources: the te...

Re: Celestia 1.7.0 Development Thread

Problem: Celestia v1.7 draws Earth red when an orbiting sphere is defined. This problem is not seen with Celestia v1.6.1 or v1.6.2 beta2 I'm guessing there might be a problem in one of the shaders. This Addon demonstrates this bug. Tha enclosed "redden.html" provides a CEL:// URL which tak...

Re: New bugfix release 1.6.2-beta1

Janus, Thanks, a lot! I've verified that your revised Celestia-txf-x64 (v 1.7, r5719) does indeed fix both the ScriptedOrbit and ScriptedRotation bugs which were reported by Chuft Captain above. My test of ScriptedRotation did uncover a different bug, though: Earth is sometimes drawn red, indicating...

Re: New bugfix release 1.6.2-beta1

Problem: Celestia v1.6.2b2 and Celestia v1.7 ignore ScriptedOrbit definitions This Addon demonstrates a bug in Celestia v1.6.2b2 and Celestia v1.7, showing that ScriptedOrbit definitions are ignored. Tha enclosed "scripted.html" provides a CEL:// URL which takes you to a viewpoint which sh...

Re: Recording videos in Celestias doesn't work, Help!

I use k-lite, too. Its H.264 encoder is very good. However, if you are going to do any editing, it’s best to use a lossless encoder until you publish the final version. Most video encoders are lossy. Each time you export to a file from the editor, more of the fine details are lost.

Re: Recording videos in Celestias doesn't work, Help!

Unfortunately, "It works fine for me," but you haven't provided enough information. I'm guessing that some of the symptoms might be related either to how your script is interacting with Celestia or to the metadata in the video file which describe its characteristics causing the video playe...

Re: Celestia 1.7.0 Development Thread

Very strange: I responded to Markerz shortly after he posted his Celestia Resources archive and saw my post in the forum, but it's gone now. At any rate, using those resouce files fixed the DSO problem I was seeing: I created a new, empty "Celestia-170" directory, extracted the resource fi...

Re: Celestia 1.7.0 Development Thread

Where can I get a “full” distribution of the current v1.7.0 files? (Shaders, textures, etc) I’d rather not download the entire github structure if it can be avoided.

Re: Celestia 1.7.0 Development Thread

I have an old laptop. OpenGL updates are no longer available for it. The August “official” version of 1.7.0 works fine. Red usually is an indication of bad shader code. Are binaries available which were built between Aug and now? Finding when the failure starts might help track down when the incompa...

Re: Celestia 1.7.0 Development Thread

An offering for anyone who cares. Here is Celestia commit 5702 statically linked using VS2015. As always, I refute DLL files as annoying, though I admit they have their place, just not on something this simple. Deep Space Objects don't render properly on my computer: they're drawn as red blocks. Be...

Re: A new Addon Repository concept (Formerly called "Should we make a new Motherlode?")

But why did he mention Comcast and AT&T? Comcast and AT&T are two examples of large communications companies in the U.S. They both are cable television and internet service providers to individual homes and to companies. (Usually only one such service provider is available in any particular...

Re: Using Celestia in a Planetaraium

Hi, So I'm trying to use Celestia for my 4m Planetarium Dome, but I've encountered an issue or two I can't figure out/find the answer to and I was hoping ye could help. First of all, when I plug in my laptop into my fisheye projector, it projects straight up onto the roof of the dome. Because of th...

Re: New bugfix release 1.6.2-beta1

Where and how do you prefer bug reports to be made? Here or on Github? I'll be testing it under Windows 7 and maybe Windows 10. Some initial comments: 1. Please add to your to-do list to update README.txt for 1.6.2. 2. Suggestion: Please consider changing the version numbers. The version currently c...

Re: Want to make some modifications

There are a few things I would like to do, and I am sure that there are folks on this board that will either A) Hunt me down and beat me with a large fish (see the movie Dogma) or B) have an alien race pick me up for study. 1) I want to add a large space station at the L1 point between the earth an...

Re: Ideas for the "Audio Playing" development of Celestia

A problem is the lack of cross-platform open-source audio I/O libraries. What do they mean? That despite the audio support in 1.6.1, there's no way to actually include actual files for voices and videos? There is no audio support in the standard version of Celestia v1.6.1 available on SourceForge. ...

Re: Ideas for the "Audio Playing" development of Celestia

The Edu version of 1.6.1 (available on the Motherlode but only for Windows) includes audio support. It’s used in the lessons available for it.

A problem is the lack of cross-platform open-source audio I/O libraries.

The Linux distros that would have to covered are Ubuntu (and its based distros like Linux Mint and Kubuntu), Debin, Arch, Fedora (OpenSUSE, Red Hat, and CentOS (Red Hat Based)). snap is supported for recent releases of all of the linux distributions mentioned, plus many more. See https://snapcraft....

Re: Celestia Origin for Linux & Mac OS X

"snap" seems to be a relatively new install format which works for most, perhaps all, linux distributions.
