Re: Render issues

Celestia's console log appears as white text at the lower left of Celestia's main graphics window. It's not a separate popup window. Also, if you're loading many or complex addons, you probably will need to make its buffer larger. Edit Celestia's startup file celestia.cfg so that the line # LogSize ...

Re: Render issues

Celestia's console log usually provides hints as to what might be going wrong.

Type a tilde (~) to see the console log while Celestia is running.
If your keyboard locale supports diacritical marks, you'll probably have to type a space first.

Use the up- and down- arrow keys to navigate in the log.

Re: Kepler 1625b

The distance to Kepler-1625 is not well known. It has been estimated to be anywhere from 4,000 LY to 8,000 LY. 2.46 Kpc (the distance shown) corresponds to ~8 KLY, the upper limit. For distances above some value, Celestia automatically converts LY to pc on the display. For example, the preprint of T...

Re: Convert RPM to seconds

To convert RPM to RPS, divide the number of revolutions per minute by the number of seconds in a minute. In other words, divide by 60:

1 RPM = 1 revolution per minute = 1/60 revolution per second.

Re: Capabilities of Celestia

Celestia's graphics output is limited to the size of your display screen. I don't know if that's sufficient for what you want to do.

If you just want a starry background, you might want to consider using actual photographs. I suspect there are some astrophotographers who'd be glad to help.

I looked, but it seems that the Titan addon was not recorded by the Web Archive. Sorry.

Re: Old addons that are no longer available for download

Many Web sites have been backed up on the Internet Archive site. Usually they save just the Web pages, but sometimes they backup Zip (and other) files, too. See http://web.archive.org/web/20080614231801/http://www.celestialmatters.org/users/rthorvald/buran/download.html and http://web.archive.org/we...

Re: create new object in Celestia

You can add objects to Celestia by using your favorite text editor to create an appropriate catalog file (SSC for planets & moons, STC for stars, DSC for deep space objects) and placing it in Celestia's "extras" folder. There are several tutorials and reference documents available. See...

Re: My 3D view from DTM and ortho textures

The minimized Addon example that I provided above does use a 512x512 surface texture image, so this particular problem seems to have some other cause.

Re: My 3D view from DTM and ortho textures

You can increase the size of the console log by editing the file celestia.cfg with is in Celestia's home directory. All the way down at the bottom of the .cfg file, remove the # from the start of the line
# LogSize 1000
and increase it to
LogSize 10000
for example

Re: My 3D view from DTM and ortho textures

If an object in Extras is not known to Celestia, then Celestia usually will show an error message in its console log saying why it did not load the SSC catalog file.

Are there any error messages in Celestia's console log on your computer?

Re: My 3D view from DTM and ortho textures

Thqt's very strange. It works fine for me using Celestia v1.6.1 What version of Celestia are you using? It might have a bug that's somehow causing problems. Are there any error messages in Celestia's console log? The log might provide a hint as to what's going wrong. Do you have any other Addons loa...

Re: How to remove malware on chrome?

Some types of malware can only be removed by booting the computer from an anti-virus CD (or DVD). Cleaning does not work if you're still running the infected operating system because the malware intercepts the attempts to delete it. Here are some examples of bootable AV tools: https://www.lifewire.c...

Re: My 3D view from DTM and ortho textures

That's very strange. It's "rock stable" for me, even when I turn the time rate up to 10000x faster. I'm using Celestia v1.6.1 with no other Addons, so it is using Celestia's original definition for Ceres. What definition are you using for Ceres? The surface texture for Ceres in your video ...

Re: My 3D view from DTM and ortho textures

The "problem" is that you're over-constraining the definition. For SurfaceObject to work as designed, you need to let it use its defaults for OrbitFrame and BodyFrame. I.e. you need to not specify them. Here's a modified SSC which does not require an Orientation statement. It has non-zero ...
