Re: Io Volcanic Plumes (old addon, new link)
Oh, yes, it's greedy. I would suggest changing the .ssc extension to .off on all but Tvashtar. Also, John van Vliet has some awesome Io textures on the Motherlode. You could also download the base of fsgregs CelestiaEDU that has better textures than the base Celestia. Have fun.

Io Volcanic Plumes (old addon, new link)
Based on the fact that it will take me another six years to clean up all the code, I've decided to re-release my Io plume addon as is. If someone feels compelled to tidy up the ssc files, I will be happy to add you as code editor in the credits. Here is a link to the file on Google Drive. Click File...

Here is a new link. I will upload it to the Motherlode at some point. Once you get to the page, click File and Download and follow the readme directions...

Re: Sprites model of Orion-like nebulae (WORK IN PROGRESS)
Afraid I've been gone a long time, but it was great to see this. This is very nice work Cham! Did you see the 3D visualiztion of M57 a couple weeks ago? Dr. Frank Summers' work was done in Maya, but I imagine it would translate pretty easily to sprites in Celestia... He did a short hangout on how he...

Re: New computer
What about Nvidia vs AMD? Way back when I was having issues with my AMD and Celestia, are there still issues or are either a safe bet nowadays?

New computer
Finally, after many years, I am updating my system. I have a budget of around $1000. I homebuilt my last two systems, but have little urge to do it a third time. Time being an issue. Anyone have any insight on newer systems. It's been a while for me and I want something that will give me good graphi...

Re: Planets in ALF Cen officially real
I did end up getting it to work. I must have had a syntax error in my ssc. I has been a LONG time.

Re: Planets in ALF Cen officially real
It has been a long time since I have done anything with Celestia. Life has a habit of interrupting fun. Anyway, I am confused about the generation of planets in a multiple star system in an ssc, specifically in the Alf Cen B case. When an extrasolar planet is added, which star naming designation do ...

What if a space elevator broke?
The physics are simplistic and lots of factors are neglected but the site is still a little interesting if just for the animations. Perhaps we could use the last animation where the counterweight breaks off as a novel launch vehicle...

Don't know if you've seen his work, but Ron Blakey was receptive to letting me use his maps for Frank Gregario's KT impact addon... Perhaps if you contact him he would send you the rest. They were all rectangular projections at 3000 x 1500. http://jan.ucc.nau.edu/%7Ercb7/global_history.html 75 Ma re...

And, we cycle back to the androgynous form... How about a child pointing to the stars?

Re: Particle systems
Beautiful work Chris. I think this system (along with non linear path development) is critical in Celestia. The visualization possibilities are endless. Those videos on Youtube are beautiful. Will we be able to do non glowing particles as well? BTW, if you only have one dimensional force motion, how...

Re: Time to revamp the Milky Way?
I may be wrong, but isn't the current rendition of the Milky Way in Celestia based on an artist's representation? What Spitzer's scientists are saying is that there are most probably two major arms rather than four. I'll admit, I haven't had time to read everything on it as I saw it in passing while...

Re: Globular Cluster Simulation
I did a lot of experiments to decide about the best rendering solution: sprites versus stars. The present displayed solution corresponds to some simple sprite rendering. By this statement and your ensuing discussion with Chris should I assume you are definitely going the sprite route for cluster ge...

Re: Candidate Extrasolar Visions Replacement
Since it's been a few years, I agree that perhaps John's wife would consider turning over the site to a new webmaster. You could tell her that you want to keep the site going in his honor. There is an email address on the site. Someone has to be doing something with hosting I would think. However hi...
