Re: newbie VT question

Limax7 , creating VT's is not an easy task. Can you explain exactly what is the problem you run into? Did you successfully install the texture tools and are you able to run them in the command prompt? For converting an png image to a bin file you would run this command: png2bin < texturefile.png > ...

Re: Looking for ssc orbit data to xyzv converter.

Janus , I have not used HORIZONS in a while, but I successfully created samples xyzv orbit files for dozens of spacecrafts and minor bodies. I guess everyone has their own way to effectively work with this data, but here is what I was doing. Go on the HORIZONS homepage and change the setting as fol...

Re: An error

CM1215, I experience the same issue. That has been happening to me ever since the november version of Celestia.

Re: Where is VY Canis Majoris?

Danny Lorraine , I've never worked with star catalogues in Celestia so I'm not exactly sure how to edit star sizes. Celestia differenciates between solar system catalogues (.ssc) and star catalogues (.stc). I hope this unnecessary complication gets removed at some point since Celestia tends to igno...

Re: Where is VY Canis Majoris?

Danny Lorraine, as far as I know Celestia calculated stellar radii by itself out of luminosity and spectral type. You can manually edit the .stc of the addon and include the command

Code: Select all

Radius <km>

Re: Celestia 1.7 Installation

All my stuff is strictly celx, which makes far more sense to me, and is far more adaptable. Interestingly, the default start.cel script works just fine. The issue is the cel code in a celx script. I simply have no idea how to write simple commands in celx that do the same job as my cel script. That...

Re: Celestia 1.7 Installation

Janus , with your intentions in mind, this makes more sense now. Which command does your script crash on? It doesn't say exactly, but from what Celestia did and did not do, I can assume that the part that's a .cel script packed into a .celx command doesnt work at all. I have no experience in script...

Re: Celestia 1.7 Installation

In the attached images, showing the same image of the Moon, with same time, distance, FOV, surface luminosity (none for 161, cursor totally on left for 1.7), you can see the luminosity of them is very different. Provided that I absolutely prefer the 161 one, the 170 is too clear and contrasted, IMH...

Re: Celestia 1.7 Installation

The OBS distance display seems to work properly. I'm not sure how the RA Dec and distance parameters work. Are they relative to Earth? One small thing I noticed after setting up my installation properly is that my costum celx startup script produces an error and doesnt get executed entirely. I can u...

Re: Celestia 1.7 Installation

Janus, thank you so much! It works! I'm just starting to discover this version of Celestia, but at first glance I don't see any differences from the version I was using. At least this tells me nothing is missing

Re: newbie VT question

Yes, I had these kind of issues with Gimp 2.9 before. I'm glad Gimp 2.10 is out now. Maybe I can handle this texture size now actually... I managed to process the texture in 32k in a reasonable amount of time. I won't do 64k since this will take about 4 times as long considering the increased amount...

Re: Celestia 1.7 Installation

I had Celestia installed on my D: drive on my laptop. On my new computer I only have 1 drive and I just installed it on the default programs directory at first. Later while setting up my content I remembered that that's a bad idea because of the restrictions that come with it so I changed it to C:\C...

Re: newbie VT question

I finished the 64k version on my new computer. I got the texture tool to work quite easily, but kept running into problems using the pipe mechanism. It kept spouting out gibberish :insane: Anyways here the VT https://drive.google.com/file/d/1WOTEgABwo-k3ZT30CsQaydQ87FmDHw8G/view?usp=sharing

Re: Celestia 1.7 Installation

Try to uninstall/delete Celestia from your PC, clean regedit too, use Ccleaner after that, and try to reinstall it. I doubt that will help as my installation was as fresh as it could have been since I'm on a new computer... I de- and reinstalled Celestia nontheless, as I remembered what a hastle it...

Re: Celestia 1.7 Installation

john71 , how did you install it exactly? It took me a while to figure out how to place all the dll and as I said, I needed a 3rd party one as well that Alexell didn't include in his package. Also I simply put the platforms folder included into my main Celestia directory. Janus , I aprechiate your e...
